by Caleb Lubbers–<\/strong>A group of freshman baseball players stepped up to the plate in a big way and claimed the title of the 2022 Men\u2019s Basketball Intramural champions of Morningside University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After three weeks of regular season play, a single-elimination post-season tournament was held last week. That culminated in a championship game pitting \u201cTeam Pushin\u2019,\u201d the freshman baseball players, against the number one, \u201cThe Backdoor Men.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTeam Pushin\u2019\u201d pulled out the victory in a close game, winning by a couple of points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the team\u2019s members, Trey Hansen, had some thoughts on how the game transpired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe just rallied as a team and played good defense. We forced some missed shots and were able to take advantage of them to eventually get the dub,\u201d Hansen said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The full team roster consisted of Hansen, Aidan Agosta, Keenan Hegan, Kai Purdy-Burton, Brady Seuntjens, Tanner Vercellino, and Colin Wingard, all baseball players with differing levels of basketball experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was a good experience to be competitive against other people on campus. It was fun being the underdogs and pulling through an upset over a team of talented players,\u201d Vercellino said after the win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, winning isn\u2019t the only thing that matters to those who participated. Conner Hill, who played for the runner-up team, \u201cThe Backdoor Men,\u201d was seen laughing after the conclusion of the championship game. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI had a really fun time playing intramural hoops this year. It allowed for a great opportunity to play with my buddies and compete against other kids on campus. It\u2019s a great way to meet new people, and I look forward to playing again next year,\u201d Hill said. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
