by Payton Miller–<\/strong>The Morningside Men\u2019s and Women\u2019s swim teams took to the Midland University pool this past <\/strong>week to compete in their final meet of the season before Nationals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day one started with a bang in the men\u2019s 200 freestyle relay led by JR Albers, Caleb Thompson, James Camp, and finished up with Joseph Ciriacio with a final time of 1:23.49 and coming in first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The women\u2019s team held its own in the 50-yard freestyle coming in 12th, 13th, and 16th. Rachel Roose with a time of 25.63, Josie Dike at 25.65, and Makenna Laher at 25.85.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Morningside finished up day one with the 500-yard freestyle; sophomore Willy Pinnow came in third at 4:46.92, and senior James Spicer was sixth 4:51.52.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Morningside\u2019s Natalie Hunt scored tenth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:03.32. On the men\u2019s side, James Camp took first overall at 49.47 followed by Nash Perisho with a time of 52.21 in sixth.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 1650-yard freestyle takes place on the final day of the KCAC conference championships. Kirsten Verplanke took fourth, Payton Miller eighth, Amber Westerberg 10th, and Elaine Morgan at 11th. On the men\u2019s side: James Spicer in third, Trey Kennedy in eighth, and Ben No in twelfth.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall team scores were announced at the end of the meet. The men\u2019s team took third and the women came in fourth. Morningside Swims head coach Bryan Farris when asked about the meet stated \u201cThis was one of the best meets this team has ever had. We came to have fun and work hard, and that is what we did.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Swimmers who met qualifying times will go on to compete at the NAIA National Championship in Columbus, Georgia on March 5th, 2022.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
