Although nobody was injured in the fire, many people, including three Morningside students, lost the majority of their personal belongings and even their pets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2021\/02\/Aptfire3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2021\/02\/Aptfire3-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12748\" width=\"-249\" height=\"-186\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2021\/02\/Aptfire3-800x600.jpg 800w, https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2021\/02\/Aptfire3-400x300.jpg 400w, https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2021\/02\/Aptfire3-200x150.jpg 200w, https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2021\/02\/Aptfire3-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2021\/02\/Aptfire3.jpg 900w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The apartment is located across from Grace United Methodist Church, right next to Morningside campus.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pastor Andy Nelson stated that one of the member\u2019s of Grace United Methodist Church, a woman who was in the area at the the time, immediately opened the church to give the affected people a place to stay during the tragedy. This is only one of the many acts of kindness shown towards the people affected.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Also: <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/archives\/12701\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/archives\/12701\" target=\"_blank\">Morningside apartment building destroyed<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The whole Morningside College family is working together to help out the three students who were affected by this tragedy. The college is collecting both cash (online) and gift card donations to help get these students back on their feet.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pastor Nelson has taken on the responsibility of being these students\u2019 one point of contact. The college is trying to keep things organized and not overwhelming the affected students. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pastor Nelson\u2019s main goal is to make sure their material needs are met, as well as their emotional and spiritual needs. Nelson said, \u201cThese situations touch everybody, people try to put themselves in the shoes of those who were affected.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The college has also been able to give these students meals from the cafeteria, even though they do not have a meal plan because they were living off campus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>General Manager of Food Service at Morningside, Kevin Paul-Van Os said, \u201cWe&#8217;re trying to help out to make sure those affected don&#8217;t have to worry about where their next meal is coming from until they can get back on their feet.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Chloe Krommendyk&#8211;Fire engulfed the apartment building at 1700 Morningside Avenue Sunday, January 24.
