{"id":11939,"date":"2020-04-18T04:14:51","date_gmt":"2020-04-18T09:14:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/?p=11939"},"modified":"2020-04-18T04:18:07","modified_gmt":"2020-04-18T09:18:07","slug":"living-in-quarantine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/archives\/11939","title":{"rendered":"Living in quarantine"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>by Iandra Estupinian\u2013<\/strong> There is no doubt now that COVID-19 is a big deal and has been the reason for many recent changes in the last month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2020\/04\/COVID-cashier_Fotor.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"297\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2020\/04\/COVID-cashier_Fotor-297x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11942\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2020\/04\/COVID-cashier_Fotor-297x400.jpg 297w, https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2020\/04\/COVID-cashier_Fotor-200x269.jpg 200w, https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2020\/04\/COVID-cashier_Fotor-768x1035.jpg 768w, https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2020\/04\/COVID-cashier_Fotor-594x800.jpg 594w, https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2020\/04\/COVID-cashier_Fotor.jpg 1500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 297px) 100vw, 297px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Schools have moved online, all dine-in restaurants are now take-out, employees are not employees unless they are considered \u201cessential,\u201d and the idea of personal space now has a measurement, 6 feet away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With Morningside College closing the campus on\nApril 8th, I had no choice but to go back to my hometown of Santa Ana, California-\na state that is on lockdown. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In California\u2019s lockdown, all citizens must\nwear a mask when going out in public, cannot go to any public areas unless it\u2019s\na store or workplace, and all minors and elders are instructed to stay indoors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Being home for more than two weeks, I could\nnot believe the safety measurements that were taking place in all the retail\nstores and in public areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When going to any store, there is an immediate line outside the door where yellow tapes separate people by six feet and employees at the doors give you your shopping cart. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All over the store, there are signs saying \u201cLimit your purchase to 1 per item\u201d. You constantly hear a \u201cStay six feet apart!\u201d over the loudspeaker and at the end of your trip, you\u2019re greeted by a cashier in a mask and gloves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn this lockdown, it feels like everyone has left the city,\u201d said Morningside freshmen and Santa Ana resident, Valerie Espinoza. \u201cNo one walks in the streets anymore and it\u2019s lonely and quiet.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Extra measures are being taken in major cities such as California and New York where it will become mandatory to wear masks in public and you must acquire a pass to drive out past certain hours of the day.
