by Mari Pizzini \u2013<\/strong> Mackenzie \u201cKiki\u201d Bennett has been chosen as January\u2019s Student of the Month. The college\u2019s chapter of Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) cast their votes in Bennett\u2019s favor at their January 19 meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mackenzie Bennett<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Student of the Month is awarded to a Morningside student who shows dedication to the college through his\/her involvement both on campus and off. Students are nominated by peers in ODK and cannot be a member of the chapter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bennett\nis a second-year student double majoring in Mass Communication and Spanish.\nThough active in multiple organizations on campus, Bennett said that her\ninvolvement in track and field is her most time-consuming commitment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s [track and field] a big part of my life. I spend hours of my week training to be able to compete,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also said her position as Vice President of Student Government plays a huge role in her campus involvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThrough Student Government I have gotten to meet many people and have had many opportunities for both leadership and growth.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Off\ncampus, Bennett was recently promoted within Pete Buttigieg\u2019s presidential\ncampaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Morningside\nencourages student participation across campus, but Bennett recognizes that\ngetting involved isn\u2019t always an easy task.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf\nyou have a passion for something,\u201d Bennett said, \u201cgo for it and don\u2019t care what\npeople think. I\u2019ve always taken on so much that I think I can\u2019t handle it, but\nit always ends up working out in the end.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
