Morningside College\u2019s Homecoming week was a full week of activities, parties, celebrations, and sports wins. Grace United Methodist Church and Morningside capped off the week with a joint worship service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pastor Jim Shirbroun and Chaplain Andy Nelson brought a message of \u201cLoving God, Loving Neighbor.\u201d Scripture readings from Matthew and Galatians spoke of God\u2019s commands to love neighbors, while Morningside students spoke about their encounters with neighbors who loved them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI was really pleased with how this service went,\u201d Nelson said. \u201cThe spirit really moved today. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I especially loved the different takes on [loving God, loving neighbor] and the different angles the reflectors took.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elizabeth Roop spoke to the congregation about loving yourself while loving your neighbor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGod didn\u2019t call us to love ourselves more than our neighbors,\u201d Roop said, \u201cHe didn\u2019t call us to love ourselves less than, either. He called us to love ourselves in the same way.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWithout recognizing that we are loved ourselves, we can\u2019t show that love to other people. Our love of others comes from a place of recognizing that we are beloved too,\u201d Nelson agreed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Morgan Gerodias, a member of Grace\u2019s young preacher series, spoke about her favorite songs and their meanings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThese songs remind me to love God no matter what you. They show me that I can be fearless,\u201d Gerodias said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe young preacher from Grace did a fantastic job talking about fearlessness and loving God,\u201d Nelson said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To end the service, the Morningside choirs joined with alumni to sing \u201cNow Let Us from This Table Rise.\u201d  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
