Midland has certainly given Morningside all they could handle in recent years, though they have never been able to pull off a win. The Warriors are now 0-14 in the contest history.\u00a0\u00a0<br><br><a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/archives\/10331\">[Click here for game photos]<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Midland came in to the contest receiving votes to be ranked, and coming off a heart breaking loss to then #11 Northwestern in which they led the entire game up until NWC hit a last\u2013second field goal to win it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If it weren\u2019t for some stagnant offense in the first quarter, Midland would\u2019ve made this game a lot more uncomfortable for the NAIA\u2019s top\u2013ranked team.<br><br>Another factor that proved to be detrimental for the Warriors was the Mustangs&#8217; passing attack.\u00a0Despite throwing his first three interceptions of the season, Joe Dolincheck still threw for an impressive 471 yards and six touchdowns.\u00a0\u00a0Both stats were tied for single game, all\u2013time records.\u00a0\u00a0<br><br>Reid Jurgensmeier went absolutely off, catching the ball nine times for 266 Yards and three touchdowns.\u00a0Jurgensmeier\u2019s yards were good enough to tie for sixth in school history for most single game receiving yards.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/09\/KatzerX2Sm.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"200\" height=\"137\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/09\/KatzerX2Sm-200x137.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10364\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/09\/KatzerX2Sm-200x137.jpg 200w, https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/09\/KatzerX2Sm-400x275.jpg 400w, https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/09\/KatzerX2Sm-768x528.jpg 768w, https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/09\/KatzerX2Sm-800x550.jpg 800w, https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/09\/KatzerX2Sm.jpg 950w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><figcaption>Katzer times two<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>After giving up two touchdowns through the air, and getting sacked for a safety in the first Quarter, Midland got the offense going in the second, trading scores with the Morningside offense.\u00a0\u00a0<br><br>After starting the season as a backup, Payton Nelson came in to start the game at quarterback and led a balanced Midland attack to 378 yards of total offense on the day.\u00a0\u00a0<br><br>Nelson\u2019s speed and out-of-the-pocket abilities made him a difficult back to get after in the backfield for a usually very dominant Morningside Defense.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although overshadowed by Dolincheck and Jurgensmeier\u2019s air attack, the Morningside rushers put together a productive day, totaling 172 yards on the ground.\u00a0\u00a0Ponder led the Mustang ground crew with 119 yards of rushing on 27 attempts.\u00a0\u00a0<br><br>Ponder has covered at least the century mark in all three games so far this season.\u00a0The junior running back is currently fifth in the NAIA in rushing yards per game at 150.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/09\/ChaseNelsonSm.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"200\" height=\"219\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/09\/ChaseNelsonSm-200x219.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10365\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/09\/ChaseNelsonSm-200x219.jpg 200w, https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/09\/ChaseNelsonSm-365x400.jpg 365w, https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/09\/ChaseNelsonSm-768x842.jpg 768w, https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/09\/ChaseNelsonSm-729x800.jpg 729w, https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/09\/ChaseNelsonSm.jpg 900w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><figcaption>Chase Nelson<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Jacob Katzer had another monster game for Morningside.\u00a0The senior finished with 12 tackles, one sack, 2.5 tackles for loss, forced and recovered a fumble as well.\u00a0Klayton Nordeen dominated in the secondary as well, intercepting his second pass of the season and breaking up another.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the 51-29 victory, Morningside advances to 3-0 on the season, and 2-0 in the GPAC.\u00a0\u00a0Midland falls to 1-2 and 0-2 in the GPAC.\u00a0<br><br>Morningside will have their second and final bye week of the season next week before hitting the road to play Hastings.\u00a0Midland will play their second non conference foe when they welcome Missouri Baptist from the Mid-States Football Association.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Steven Cutler&#8211;Midland came to play.\u00a0\u00a0Just not until the second quarter.\u00a0\u00a0 The Mustangs moved to 3-0 on the season with the 51\u201329 win.
