Creator Dan Robbins, who died\nearly last month, was inspired to create these kits so everyone would be able\nto experience the feeling of creating something, even if they weren\u2019t a\nclassically trained artist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/05\/914Nj3vHDPL._SX425_.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10020\" width=\"322\" height=\"338\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/05\/914Nj3vHDPL._SX425_.jpg 425w, https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/05\/914Nj3vHDPL._SX425_-200x210.jpg 200w, https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/05\/914Nj3vHDPL._SX425_-381x400.jpg 381w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 322px) 100vw, 322px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>There are many skills to be learned from paint by numbers,\nlike how to properly use tints and shades to create the perfect shadow effect\namong other things. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Terri McGaffin, chair of the Morningside Art Department and artist, recalled using paint by numbers as a child. She learned \u201cabout the value and intensity of the color and how to use it.\u201d She went on to say that \u201cpaint by number kits taught me basic color theory and how to mix just the right color.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another benefit of paint by numbers is that they\u2019re a great\nstress reliever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sarah Schwartz, a senior non-profit management major, said\n\u201cpaint by numbers have always been a stress reliever for me.\u201d She described the\nprocess of making one of these artworks as \u201ccalming,\u201d especially when she is\nstressed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Schwartz says that paint by number kits also helped her learn to follow instructions and to pay attention to detail. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Originally these kits came with a piece of canvas with the\ntell-tale outlines, numbers sketched on the surface, brushes, and small,\nindividually filled gelatin capsules filled with oil paint.
