As a result, we learn very quickly that the future created by Brian Aldiss is a very dangerous place.<\/p>\n<p>We are introduced to a small band of humans in a distant future in which Earth has been overrun by massive vegetation, and humans are a minor species living in the branches of the trees. The ground is referred to, but not seen in this chapter, and I get the impression that humans seldom, if ever, see the ground, and don&#8217;t see the sky very often either.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, this chapter isn&#8217;t a very long one, and the main thing we&#8217;ve learned so far is that there are a lot of ways to die.
