“Sanitation” of movies

I have never heard of “sanitizing” movies, and I definitely don’t agree with it.  I do think that it is against copyright laws and destroys what the producer and director made.  Directors think of their movies as a work of art.  People don’t edit Leonardo Da Vinci’s works of art, why can they edit movies?  Yes, I agree that some things are okay to edit in order for them to air on television.  But, taking an entire movie and editing every single form of violence, nudity, and sexual content is taking it a little too far.  When the author of this editorial mentioned a person taking out the entire first scene of “Saving Pravate Ryan”, he said that it destroys what the director is trying to portray.  That scene is very important to the entire movie.  The movie is about the Vietnam War and war is never pretty.  Turning that movie into a fairy tale is just dumb.  Sometimes violence and other content in needed in a movie because that is what the movie was supposed to be about.  If a person tried to “sanitize” a Rocky movie, they really wouldn’t have a movie left.  I believe that if somebody wants to have a “clean” movie, they should check out the Disney section at their local Wal-Mart.  Otherwise leave the good movies alone.

Beer Taxes Reduce STD Rates

The whole idea of raising beer taxes to reduce STD rates sounds kind of silly to me.  STDs are spread because of having unprotected sex.  Granted, a lot of unprotected sex can happen at parties or other rendezvous, but saying that it is mostly caused by drinking is just plain dumb.  I think there can be other ways to prevent STDs besides raising taxes on beer.  In college, a lot of kids drink.  Kids will find the cheapest beer, no matter how it tastes.  I don’t believe that raising the tax on beer will make students stop drinking beer, especially in college.  And for the statistic that states that men are more likely to be affected by it than women is because women don’t always buy their drinks.  Heck, a lot of girls go to parties/bars without alcohol/money and just wait for some guy to ask them if they want a drink.  I think that other strategies should be taken as far as reducing STD rates such as education on safe sex, abstinence, and condom use.
