“Sanitation” of movies
Posted in Uncategorized on February 24th, 2011 by SamanthaI have never heard of “sanitizing” movies, and I definitely don’t agree with it. I do think that it is against copyright laws and destroys what the producer and director made. Directors think of their movies as a work of art. People don’t edit Leonardo Da Vinci’s works of art, why can they edit movies? Yes, I agree that some things are okay to edit in order for them to air on television. But, taking an entire movie and editing every single form of violence, nudity, and sexual content is taking it a little too far. When the author of this editorial mentioned a person taking out the entire first scene of “Saving Pravate Ryan”, he said that it destroys what the director is trying to portray. That scene is very important to the entire movie. The movie is about the Vietnam War and war is never pretty. Turning that movie into a fairy tale is just dumb. Sometimes violence and other content in needed in a movie because that is what the movie was supposed to be about. If a person tried to “sanitize” a Rocky movie, they really wouldn’t have a movie left. I believe that if somebody wants to have a “clean” movie, they should check out the Disney section at their local Wal-Mart. Otherwise leave the good movies alone.
