Objectivity in Modern Media

Objectivity is a practice that has been used for quite a while- not in terms of the long history of Journalism, but in modern terms- and it is being questioned now. Objectivity is to leave behind your bias of a story and present the facts as they are. As a college student, objectivity presents itself in the way of an informative essay. You will down the facts as they are without material that could entice the reader for or against the subject. To purposely make the reader chose a side is subjective, and persuasion.

The “norms” for objectivity are changing because of the media itself, the cracks are only more obvious in this political season. Trump and Clinton are not changing the rules, media that have done conservative or liberal bias news have changed the rules. In the past, news outlets have attacked political parties without malice or objectivity. In modern time, the reputation on an outlet is preceding the news stories. The only possible way for the trend to change is to remain objective. The only way to make audiences forget about reputation of the media is to remain objective. Once the reputation of objectivity returns to the news, then people can have accurate knowledge of their society. The “norm” of media should be objectivity. Both candidates should receive equal acclaim while garnering equal scrutiny. With objectivity about the failures and triumphs of each party, the American people can, intellectually and equally, decide which candidate is the lesser of two evils.
