Today our guest speaker talked about what pilgrimage meant to him and his experiences on them. He was very passionate about this topic. I am going to talk about a few of the things that I took from his lecture. First off he stressed community; while on a pilgrimage people go through hardships such as walking long distances and while doing this people must work together to complete the pilgrimage. While working together this brings people together and gives a sense of community and his example was talking about those who were stronger would take a load of those who were struggling. Once the hardship was completed which could have been climbing a large hill, mountain, or a long walk there is a sense of accomplishment and brings the people feel closer to God.<\/p>\n
If you are on a pilgrimage this means that you are obviously in a foreign place and while on the pilgrimage this gives you a chance to start over and be a new \u201cyou.\u201d For that reason I believe people feel closer to God and spiritually grow in their faith. He talked about a girl who had drug problems and was in trouble with the law and she joined him on a pilgrimage and it was life changing. She turned her life around and changed for good and surrounded herself with new friends.<\/p>\n
The last point he made was powerful to me; he said that the pilgrimage does not start until you return home. Meaning that the real journey starts when you get home and you start over with a new perspective on life. I can see how people use their experiences and totally change and come home a new person and find meaning in their life and become a better person.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
