Three Morningside College faculty members and one academic\u00a0 department have received the Dr. William C. Yockey Assessment Awards, which\u00a0 annually recognize outstanding efforts to improve student learning at\u00a0 Morningside.<\/p>\n
Faculty members who received awards for general education\u00a0 courses they teach include Dr. Kimberly Christopherson, assistant professor of\u00a0 psychology, for her Experimental Psychology Lab; Dr. Brenda Mammenga, assistant\u00a0 professor of mathematical sciences, for her course Mathematical Understanding\u00a0 and Reasoning; and Dr. Patrick McKinlay, professor of political science, for\u00a0 his course Introduction to International Relations.<\/p>\n
The Morningside College English Department received a\u00a0 department\/program award in recognition of department-wide efforts to assess\u00a0 and improve student learning. English department faculty members include Dr.\u00a0 Stephen Coyne, Dr. Marty Knepper and Dr. Jennifer Peterson.<\/p>\n
A $2,500 cash prize is included with each award, which\u00a0 covered courses taught at Morningside during the 2011-2012 academic year.\u00a0 Dr. Joel Frederickson, associate dean of\u00a0 institutional assessment and accreditation at Bethel University in St. Paul,\u00a0 Minn., served as outside evaluator for the awards.<\/p>\n
The family of the late Dr. William C. Yockey, a\u00a0 1949 Morningside graduate and a chemistry professor at the college for more\u00a0 than 30 years, established the awards in his name.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
