{"id":1035,"date":"2012-08-07T14:41:12","date_gmt":"2012-08-07T19:41:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/morningsider\/?p=1035"},"modified":"2012-08-07T16:55:34","modified_gmt":"2012-08-07T21:55:34","slug":"nursing-grads-all-pass-boards-on-first-try","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/morningsider\/2012\/08\/07\/nursing-grads-all-pass-boards-on-first-try\/","title":{"rendered":"Nursing Grads Ace Board Exam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">All of this year\u2019s 19 nursing graduates from Morningside College passed their board examination on the first try.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">This is compared to last year\u2019s state and national first-time pass rates of 86.2 percent and 87.9 percent, respectively.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Registered nurse candidates must pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX) to show competencies needed to perform safely and effectively as a newly licensed, entry-level nurse.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Morningside\u2019s pass-rate is typically above average, with almost 93 percent of the 2011 graduates passing on the first try, said Mary Kovarna, professor and chair of nursing. She said graduates may repeat the exam, and Morningside\u2019s eventual passing rate has stayed very near 100 percent for more than 15 years.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u201cWe offer a nursing program with a strong liberal arts foundation that cultivates professional nurses who are able to think critically and assume diverse roles and responsibilities to improve the quality, safety and direction of nursing and health care,\u201d she said. \u201cThe NCLEX is only the first step in their extensive career paths.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>All of this year\u2019s 19 nursing graduates from Morningside College passed their board examination on the first try.
