Clarence “Buddy” Mounts was inducted into the M-Club Hall of Fame.
1958
Arnie and Carolyn (Ebel) Schanke celebrated their 55th anniversary on Dec. 21, 2012. They live in Tulsa, Okla. Arnie worked for F.W. Woolworth in New York City until retiring, at which time he became vice president and director of operation at Oral Roberts University. Arnie then retired again and became president of Media Unlimited until deciding to retire for good. Carolyn has been a column writer for several newspapers and a realtor for over 25 years.
1961
Former Iowa Sen. Dr. Dave Mulder, R-Sioux Center, had his second book, “An Education in Politics: Four Years in the Iowa State Senate 2004-2008,” published in October 2012. Mulder wrote the book with former Sen. Frank B. Wood Jr., D-Eldridge. Mulder’s first work was a yearly devotional titled “Devotions from the Heartland,” and was published in 2010. A second edition will be published in 2013.
1964
Dr. Bonnie (Nagel) Messer works in private practice as a licensed psychologist in Colorado. She recently published a book titled “Sixty-Five Lively Ideas for Successful Aging” with co-author Marjorie Bayes. Bonnie and her husband, Donald, also have established a nonprofit organization called the Center for the Church and Global AIDS, which seeks to support and advocate for persons infected and affected by HIV and AIDS in the world through programs of education, prevention, care and treatment. Barbara (Malmanger) Bielenberg, of Sloan, Iowa, recently completed four years on the national Policies Commission for Business and Economic Education and served as chair and past chair. Bielenberg also just completed a three-year term on the International Society for Business Education board, as well as a three-year term on the North Central Business Education Association Board. Bielenberg continues service on the Iowa Business Education Association Board.
Tom and Jan (Hughes) McIntosh 1969 have retired from the Green River, Wyo., school district and moved to Loveland, Colo. Tom received Distinguished Citizen recognition from the Green River Chamber of Commerce in 2012 for his years of volunteer work developing the Green River Bike Park and Wilkins Peak Mountain Bike Trail System.
Rosemary (Buckingham) Tweet retired from Tucson Unified School District in Arizona after 18 years. During this time, she served as an elementary classroom teacher, a Title I resource seacher, a curriculum specialist at a technology focus school and for the past six years, she served as a district language arts specialist.

Russel Clifford retired from Morningside Lutheran Church in Sioux City, where he was the minister of music. He was at Morningside Lutheran Church for 14 years after teaching at West High School and Bishop Heelan Catholic High School, both in Sioux City.
1970
Marilyn (Webb) Hagberg was elected to the 2013 Siouxland Community Foundation Board.
Scott Schreiner retired in March 2013. Most recently, Schreiner had worked in the Steele County Attorney’s Office in Owatonna, Minn., as the assistant county attorney, and prior to this, Schreiner served as a partner for 27 years in the law firm of Ruth, Schreiner, and Long.

Dr. bill russell directed “Elegies for Angels, Punks, and Raging Queens” at the University of Kansas. “Elegies for Angels, Punks, and Raging Queens” was developed in the late 1980s as a theatrical response to the AIDS crisis. This piece celebrates those whose lives were lost to the disease.
1972
Mike Schmidt began a two-year term as president of the 600-member Blackhawk Unit of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association in December 2012.
1973
Ken Spies was named to the Greater Sioux City Board of Realtors. Spies is a past president of the board and a broker associate with Century 21 ProLink in Sioux City.
1975
Scott Ernst was named treasurer of the Downtown Sioux City Kiwanis Club for 2012-2013.
1977
Linda (Clausen) Erickson recently earned the Certified Hospice & Palliative Nurse designation. She is the education coordinator for Hospice of Siouxland.
1979
Janet (Liibbe) Young was awarded the Warren E. Shull National High School Student Council Adviser of the Year Award in June of 2012. Young is a teacher at Sioux City West High School and has been student council adviser for 24 years.
1980
Frank Heffner was recognized for 20 years of service at Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City. Heffner is an instructor in the video game design program at the college.
Dr. Tim Orwig works for Northeastern University in Boston as a lecturer, teaching courses in design and architectural history.

Deb Angerman was recognized for 25 years of service at Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City. Angerman is an accounting specialist at the college.

Dan Fry recently began working as the global logistics and distribution manager for Otterbox in Fort Collins, Colo.
1983
Jim Diavastes received the Lifetime Achievement Award in Television Broadcasting and was also named Creative Director/Producer of the Year by Medaille College in Buffalo, N.Y. These awards recognize creativity, expertise and service to the Western New York and Medaille community. Diavastes is the Senior Creative Services producer/director for WIVB/WNLO-TV in Buffalo. He began his career at KMSC radio station at Morningside and KTIV television station in Sioux City. Other recognition over the years includes ADDY Awards, New York State Broadcasters Association awards, public service awards, and Best Commercial produced by LIN TV Corporation, which he won in 2010.
Marcia (Byers) Moore was named a member of the board for the Siouxland Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure for 2012-2013.

Eric Norton is a mechanical design technician for Schemmer and Associates in Omaha, Neb. His son, Sgt. Michael P. Norton, is serving his third tour of duty at Camp Leatherneck in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan. Michael is the second son in his family to be in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Dr. Phillip Miller was promoted to full professor in the economics department at Minnesota State University in Mankato.
David Reed is working for John Deere in Horicon, Wis., as a supply management engineer. Reed works within the Ag and Turf Division with Gator utility vehicles and riding lawn equipment.

Kendall Millard was one of four recipients of the Pro Bono Publico Award from the Indiana Bar Foundation for his outstanding pro bono work representing people fleeing persecution in their home countries and seeking asylum in the U.S. Millard is a partner at Barnes & Thornburg in Indianapolis, focusing on antitrust litigation.

Alyssa (Honken) Nelson is treasurer for the South Sioux City Firefighters Auxiliary. The group recently won the state auxiliary’s first-place award for the second consecutive year. It was awarded this honor for its contributions to the fire department and the community.

Rexann (Kaler) Smith was recognized for five years of service at Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City. Smith is an instructor for the medical assistant program at the college.

Michelle Holmes was elected treasurer of the board for the Siouxland affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Tony Onesto, art teacher at Aldo Leopold Middle School in Burlington, Iowa, was named the 2012 Outstanding Middle Level Art Educator. He received this recognition from Art Educators of Iowa in October during a joint Iowa/Nebraska conference in Council Bluffs, Iowa. This is not the first time that Onesto has received recognition for his teaching. He was a finalist for two national teaching awards, and he was awarded the League of United Latin American Citizens State Director Award for service above and beyond for children in 2004; Daily Democrat Teacher of the Year in 2008; and Southeastern Iowa/Southwestern Illinois Teacher of the Year place winner from the Burlington Hawk Eye newspaper in 2002, 2006 and 2012.

Dr. Patrick J. Murphy’s new book, “Mutiny and its Bounty: Leadership Lessons from the Age of Discovery,” authored with his colleague Ray Coye, was published in March 2013 by Yale University Press.

Susan Willer is a copywriter for Staples Promotional Products in Orange City, Iowa. In her hometown of Brunsville, Iowa, she publishes a newsletter every month called The Brunsville Blitz. Grant Wittstruck, digital strategy director at Powell Broadcasting, won three ADDY Awards – one gold and two silver – for billboard artwork he created for the company’s radio stations in Panama City Beach, Fla. The billboards were up during the fourth quarter of 2012, and he received the awards during a February gala in Panama City Beach.

Karen Grabowski is an outpatient therapist for Catholic Charities of Omaha.
Beau Kildow had his research findings published in The Journal of Clinical Microbiology in November 2012. He worked with Dr. Rachel Robson, assistant professor of biology at Morningside, and Johan Conradie 2011 on research regarding Staphylococcus aureus testing procedures. Kildow is a student at the University of Nebraska College of Medicine in Omaha.
