Morningside College presented the 2012 Thomas S. Thompson Staff Excellence Awards to Sheri Hineman, assistant director of student life; Mike Husmann 2003, senior systems administrator; Colleen Knapp, admissions database assistant; Brett Lyon 2004, assistant security director; David Nash 1990, head track and cross country coach; and Paul Treft 1984, associate vice president for business/controller. Nash also was named staff employee of the year.
Recipients were selected based upon their demonstration of outstanding dedication, service and commitment to Morningside and its students during the 2011-2012 academic year. Each recipient received a cash bonus. Funding for the annual awards comes from an endowment established by Margaret Thompson, wife of the late Thomas S. Thompson, who served as president of Morningside from 1969 to 1978.
Hineman joined the college in 2004 as area coordinator and student activities coordinator. She was recognized as a true advocate for students who has a key role in providing them living and learning environments that are safe, comfortable and healthy.
Husmann went to work for Morningside in 2003 as network system manager. He was honored for helping to make certain that almost every Morningside department, student, staff and faculty member can perform a variety of work- and classroom-related tasks efficiently and seamlessly.
Knapp has worked for Morningside since 2005. She was recognized for being a quick learner, a hard worker and a person who has the best attitude. She recently took on added responsibilities with a smile on her face and never a complaint.
Lyon started working for Morningside in 2007. He was honored for always being prepared to deal with the unexpected and the unplanned. He also sits on many community professional organizations and committees that help enhance his job performance at Morningside.
Nash started working full time at Morningside in 2003. He was recognized for his GPAC coach of the year titles and historic finishes for teams in conference and national tournaments. This year the NAIA presented one of his teams with a national Champions of Character award.
Treft joined the college’s business office in 2000. He was honored for providing the kind of leadership and guidance that enables everyone in his department to succeed. Because his door is always open, his employees are able to provide excellent customer service to students and their families.
