Dr. Brenda Mammenga joined the faculty in 2007 as an assistant professor of mathematical sciences. Award evaluators commended her ability to ask questions that “catapulted Morningside students into deep, integrated learning as part of their classes.”

Dr. Jeremy Schnieder joined the faculty in 2010 as an assistant professor of writing and rhetoric. Award evaluators called him “a role model in a variety of venues: in the classroom, during advising and through work with campuswide initiatives.”

Dr. Chris Spicer joined the faculty in 2009 as an assistant professor of mathematical sciences. Award evaluators commended his teaching techniques that “engage students who may find the material frightening or challenging.”

About the awards

The Sharon Walker Faculty Excellence Awards are funded by a generous gift from Jim and Sharon Walker 1970 of Wayzata, Minn. Criteria for selection includes teaching excellence, effective advising, scholarship and service to the college during the previous academic year.
