Make up blog #1- Obese child taken away from mom

As we know childhood obesity is a huge problem in our country today, with sugary, fatty foods and fast food.  In the article it talks about how an 8 year old boy that weighed over 200 pounds was taken away from his mother because if child endangerment. He was placed in foster care. The mother feels that it isn’t child endangerment, but the agency has been talking to her for over a year now. Her son was taken to a hospital for breathing problems where the doctors gave him directions to lose weight and get healthier, but the mom made no attempt to help him get better.

I’m going to have to agree with the law officials on this one. The mother had been contacted for over a year to try to help the son out. But instead she ignored officials and the son kept gaining weight. The poor kid is 8 years old and 200 POUNDS!!!! Do you want your freakin kid to die? I feel like it is neglect because she is letting her kid die. Because obese kids suffer from diabetes, heart problems, high blood pressure, and joint problems. That isn’t fair to the son because he still is somewhat young and doesn’t understand whats good for him and what’s  bad for him. A responsible mother would let her son eat healthy and have some food that is bad for him every now and then, not every single meal, every single day! The deserves to have her son taken away because she wasn’t following doctors orders, after going to the hospital for his breathing problems.

Why did you choose to attend a liberal arts college?

I attended a liberal arts college not because it was a liberal arts college, but because it was a small college that was close to home. How else would i have clean clothes if my mom wasn’t close enough to do it? I’m just kidding but I wanted to be away from my family but still close enough to see them once a week if I wanted. It also had the ideal class size and it had a dance program that I knew I wanted to be apart of. If the class sizes were any bigger I’d just be a number, and I’m the kind of student that has to be somewhat close to the board otherwise I would not care and not pay attention.  And then I’d fail at life and become a bum, and that would be a waste of life. So in all, I’m thankful that Morningside is making me think outside the box and become a successful perso.

Alex Waters presentation

In his presentation last night, Alex Waters made a strong point to start building your resume now as a freshman. I agree with this because the more activities and clubs your in, in college the easier it is for you to get a job post college. I think this because when looking for a job the employer always ask about previous job experience or community service and if one person has that past experinces and the other one doesn’t. More than likely the person with past job experience will get the job. I agree with Alex because if you don’t start builing your resume now then it will just be harder for you and take longer for you to get your “dream job”.

Alex also made it a point to have a back up job just in case your “dream job” doesn’t work out for you, like you planned. I look up to Alex because of how he has such a positive outlook on life even if he has a minor set back by being in a wheelchair. He could mope around all day but he is so happy and positive. Last night, the whole time Alex was telling his story, I was thinking of a kid in my hometown who broke his C5 vertibrae last winter. I thought about how big a change he had endured and hope he would have such a positive outlook on life, just as Alex did. I feel like Alex could be a positive role model to everyone, in a wheelchair or not.
