Armed Robbery Last Night at 450 Stanley Street

Two men wearing a ski mask entered the store last night at 8:30 p.m. One held a gun on the owner of the store Barney Joseph, while the other took $382.85 from the cash register. Joesph told the police “The robbery was over in less than a minute.” Joesph kept a pistol under the counter but decided not to use it because he felt it was unwise.

Joesph’s father was killed almost 25 years ago in the same holdup at the same store location. Barney Joesph spoke about the tragic event of his father, “They found him shot to death, his own gun in his hand, and a bullet in the store’s ceiling. I’d rather part with my money than my life,” he
said.

Biles earned her spot on the world championship team even after she faced errors in all four events.

Simone Biles knows that this was not her best work. Chellsie Memmel who is the technical lead for the women’s program expressed about Biles “She knows it was not even close to her best but it’s OK right now.”

Biles was off to a rough start Tuesday night due to her starting with her weakest event uneven bars. She was put into 10th place after her first event. Biles made sure to make up for this setback by later becoming atop of the standings.

The U.S. women begin the world championship with qualifying on October 1st.

Scavenger Hunt Interview

When Dr. Lawrence Muzinga was asked to tell me a piece of good advice. He did not think twice about his response. He managed to come up with two quotes in a timely manner. The first quote he said was “Maximize your time on campus.” He also mentioned that from a professor’s point of view, his advice would be to “Think bigger than yourself.”

Muzinga told me after the fact of asking him this question that his daughter is a journalist. He went on to explain that she is a news anchor for the Fox 4 News in Dallas Texas. Dr. Lawrence was wearing navy blue dress pants and a light blue shirt with a black cap on his head during this interview.

Jessica Lumsden is the Administrative Coordinator here at Morningside. She had free breath mints in front of her desk at the Lincoln Center. My task in this scavenger hunt was to get a mint so once I saw those sitting at her desk I made my way to her. Jessica asked me “Do you need anything?” I proceeded to tell her that for my journalism class, I was told to find someone with a piece of gum or a breath mint. She gladly let me take a breathe mint from her desk without asking any further questions besides “Is that all I can do for you?” Once I mentioned that was all I needed from her she went to say “Okay, have a nice day.”

The breathe mint Jessica gave me

Teenage Coco Gauff Makes History Winning U.S. Open -Final

Coco Gauff won her first major title at the US Open on Saturday. She defeated Aryna Sabalenka in front of thousands at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The 19-year-old American claimed her first Grand Slam title. With the help from the home crowd, she came back to win after losing the first set.

Oh my goodness, it means so much to me,” Gauff told ESPN’s Mary Joe Fernandez. “I feel like I’m a little bit in shock in this moment. That [2022] French Open loss was a heartbreak for me. But I realized God put you through tribulations and trials and that makes this moment even sweeter than I could have imagined.”

Gauff has had high expectations from as early as the age of 15. She became the youngest ever to qualify for the Wimbledon main draw. U.S. News reported that Gauff said this about the high expectations, “People were putting a lot of pressure on me to win. I felt that at 15 I had to win a slam at 15.”

Eyes are going to be on Gauff considering she is the youngest American to win the Open since Serena Williams in 1999. Not only was she the youngest American to win the U.S. Open, but she also became the first American player since Sofia Kenin in 2020 to win a major title at the Australian Open.

After winning, Coco got on her knees to pray for victory. The New York Times described Gauff’s reaction “I was just saying thank you and I understood like all the tough times were just to make that moment even sweeter. I think if it came easy, I wouldn’t feel as appreciative as I did in that moment.”

She was told a month ago that she would stop after she won her 500th title She was also told that after her 1000th title that was the biggest title she would achieve. This did not stop Gauff from making history. Three weeks later she won the U.S. Open.

News Comment #2- Screen time leads to developmental delays for 1-year-olds

Studies have shown that increased screen time can lead to developmental delays in communication and problem-solving skills. Screen time usage for children at the age of 1 is not advised. Research showed that 61 percent of 1-year-olds who spent up to two hours a day on a screen lacked communication skills. All of this research makes sense considering if a child is not putting their words they are learning into practice, they will fall behind. If a 1-year-old is not receiving the face-to-face attention they need they are going to lack in a lot of the educational aspects. Considering technology is so assessable nowadays, it is important for parents to take initiative by limiting their infants screen time.

This news article was recently published. It is impacting anyone that cares about the overall well-being of their children. In order to prevent developmental delays like this, one must be educated on the topic first. Overall, this article is considered news. This article is relevant today and sends an important message to caregivers who want to look out for what’s best for their infants.
