“Opinion: Report on Racism, But Ditch the Labels” Comment

August 23rd, 2019 · No Comments

The article revolved around a tweet that President Trump had posted saying “So interesting to see ‘Progressive’ Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run. Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came.” This led to the topic of reporting based on facts about what President had to say or bring racism and discrimination into the mix to create more of a controversy revolving around this widely talked about president. The article ended by stating news outlets and reporters have a choice to view his tweet as a simple political statement or cross the line of racism and bring a different public group involved.

I believe the title of this article is decent but it could be better. This article has a personal tone to it, not a reporter on the NYT. If the author wanted to gain more attention then they could have brought Trump’s name into the title just because of his controversial background. This article revolves around the presidents tweet as well so I did like the big picture of him in the beginning to make up for the under par title. The body was an easy read and short to the point which was great for someone who is just looking for a view of racism or if the media is stretching too far to find a story.

About Me

August 22nd, 2019 · No Comments

I am a sophomore looking to get my bachelors degree in Business Marketing and Advertising. I am part of the track and cross country team, so I’m a distance runner. That is the extent of my involvement at the college, although there is much I’m interested in trying. My free time revolves around my team and friends. I feel like I had an out with making friends my first year just because the team brought them to me. I now live in the on-campus apartments with five other girls who I’m friends with and who are on either the cross or track team.

To answer the question of why I’m taking this class, Im taking it because it seemed ideal with marketing. I want to have a career in public relations so I will be needing to crate reports and such so I feel this class will help me write to the public and not to a teacher. My interest in business began when I realized I’m not smart enough to become a zoologist, and when I took my first business class in high school. It was a class about entrepreneurship and that sparked my interest due to the freedom of creativity and the vast career choices I could take.

If Im not in class or with the team, I’m likely napping or taking a trip to McDonalds with my best friend/roommate at any and all hours of the night. I don’t do much else I do simply because I’m lazy and choose to just watch Netflix instead of doing something productive.

Interview of Tyler Carney

August 22nd, 2019 · No Comments

Born 19 years ago in the town of Ames, Iowa; Tyler Carney now resides at Morningside College where he excels in track and cross country; although he does have a certain love for basketball as well. Tyler chooses to major in Mass Communication and business-particularly sports management. When asked why he chose Morningside, Tyler replied “I thought the coaches were really nice and just the atmosphere of the place”.

A few fun facts to know about Tyler is that he listens to both hip hop and rap, but threw a curveball when he said he also enjoys acoustic music. He’s a big foodie that loves pasta but his favorite would have to be Alfredo. On his free time, Tyler simply hangs with his friends or is out playing basketball. He has traveled outside of the United States to go to Mexico and has his eye set on a trip to the Bahamas. To round off the interview, Tyler was asked to choose any superpower and he chose super speed. His reasoning of the choice was a little out of the box because he explained that not only would you be fast, but you could be really strong with the energy you have; and to add that you could never be caught by the cops!
