This topic is newsworthy because people like entertainment, especially movies. This information about the new superhero “Captain Marvel” is exciting to fans. The last Marvel movie, the end scene hinted towards this new superhero, but fans hadn’t seen her yet. Fans were excited to see this character in the magazine Entertainment Weekly, and the first image of her superhero costume.

This was directed towards fans, it was featured on a news site for Entertainment. I think the lead was effective, using phrases like “just released” and “first image”,  showing readers a chance to have the ‘inside scoop’. This article was the perfect length and gave some more background and information about her character that is interesting to fans. I do wish they would have flipped the pictures around, to have Brie Larson in her costume at the top, but they structured that probably to keep the audience reading.

“When She Rises”, an all women art exhibit uniting women.

“When She Rises” is an all women art exhibit held from July 7 to September 15 at SPARC, The Social and Public Art Resource Center in Venice California. It will feature 100 female artists from all over the world, color, and ages.

I think that this article is newsworthy. The focus on women empowerment and equality has definitely been an issue that is being confronted and talked about in society. It discussed issues with females not having equal representation in the art world, having an expiration date, and how competitive it is for women. As a female artist myself, I found this article interesting, and more eye-opening to see even the inequality and lack of female representation that I had no idea about. However, I did find this article a little lengthy, and I felt that some parts could be more summarized, because it had multiple types of artists featured and talk about the exhibit, and of course talked in length about different issues surrounding women in the workplace.

This article is definitely directed towards a female audience, being in a section of the news “for strong women”, and is written by a female journalist. It does a nice job of not ranting about males, which I was expecting, but is definitely written to empower women.

Response to “How the Media covers White Supremacists”

This article was interesting on how it was set up, in that it was conversation based rather than a summary or a statement. I do feel it was newsworthy, it is quite an ethical dilemma, should journalists be reporting on hate group rallies, giving them a platform and normalizing their activities, or should they ignore this story, and deny the public this information of what is happening around them? The audience I think is other news teams, and the general public, to see how they would respond or how others report or respond to this kind of story, on whether they should report or not. The different points of view come from a news team, and a host for a news team I believe. I’m not sure this would be beneficial, or if this is needed, but maybe what is missing, is the view from a participant in one of these groups, to hear their side of the story. Obviously, they would think that their events need to have media coverage, their message spoken, but would it do the public any good? I almost feel if we report on this type of issue, we need to include a little of their opinion as well, even if we already think we know what it is. Originally, reading this article, I thought that there doesn’t need to be coverage on this type of story, because it doesn’t help the public in any way. As I was reading it, they argued that journalists shouldn’t deny the public of information of what is going on. I do feel the journalists did a good job about keeping the issue on whether to report on these kinds of events in a very general and not turning it on the ethics of what this groups message is.
