Abby Sitzmann’s mom, Valerie would encourage Abby to stay a weekend at UNI and just hangout with her roommate and make some friends. Valerie said “I could tell Abby did not like UNI. She would come home almost every weekend and when it was time to go back, she would wait until the last minute to leave.” Valerie thought Abby wasn’t giving UNI a shot because she was coming home all the time and wouldn’t talked about school when she came home. “Every time I asked Abby about school and she would be very short and negative about it” Valerie said. After Abby’s second year at UNI, Valerie knew that it was not the right fit for her. Finally, Valerie let Abby start looking at different schools.

Abby transferred from UNI her Junior year of college. “I am so much happier here at Morningside.” said Abby. She said that Morningside feels more like home to her and she is happy that she made the choice to finish off her education at Morningside.

Jordan, a former UNI roommate of Abby said she’s sad to see Abby feeling like she didn’t belong and watch her go every weekend. Jordan said that she always asked Abby to stay for the weekend and hangout. Jordan said one weekend Abby stayed she tried to go out and have fun but she couldn’t click with anyone around. “Abby was always friendly to everyone and she tried to be outgoing and try new things, but I guess she just didn’t fit in” said Jordan. When Abby told Jordan that she was thinking about transferring Jordan was down but knew it was the best choice for Abby.

Abby started to look at colleges closer to home, she didn’t like being so far away when she went to UNI. Abby said “I was looking for a college where I wasn’t just a number.” When Abby heard about Morningside she knew she had to visit. “I knew that Morningside had a really good educational program and was not too big but not small.” Abby took a tour at Morningside with her mom. They could tell that that it would be a better fit all around. After figuring out Morningside was the right college  for her, she wanted to try out for cheer. Abby racked up the courage to try out for the cheer team and made it!

“I am 100% happier here at Morningside” Abby said. Valerie said that she can see a lot of improvement on how Abby is doing in with school and how her attitude towards everything. Abby said that everyone at Morningside is so helpful and wants the best for student’s future. Abby said, “The thing I like most about Morningside is how everyone wants you to get involved, that has really helped to step out of my comfort zone and meet new people around campus.” Abby is currently the captain on the Morningside cheer team and is involved in many different clubs such as, MMLE, ICA, and Resident’s Life. Abby said, “Morningside College has given me so many opportunities to get involved within the community and on campus. I am so much happier than I ever was.”
