I don’t understand how anyone could even think about hurting a baby. I think it is absolutely horrible that McGeHee did this. I think the story is very newsworthy, but I wish the article would have contained a little more information. Like maybe where the dad was when the mother returned home? Or if there had been any previous abuse? I am also curious about why authorities wouldn’t say the sex of the baby.

Just in general, Meghanne, the media have to be careful what they report about crimes before sentencing and the trial. If they print too many details, they can prejudice the potential jury pool.
The same goes for the police. They might be more careful than usual with this case, releasing less information to the media, so they don’t screw up the case.
And it;s also possible the newspaper is thinking about its readers and not printing disturbing facts.
