Science Story

Not all college professors are trustworthy, and you should be skeptical of them.

An Alzheimer’s drug called simufilam is currently being developed by Cassava Sciences along with City College of New York professor Hoau-Yan Wang. However, lots of their research and data have been brought into question.

The New York Times specifically mentions Wang’s poor data and record keeping. The college has not released an official report of the misconduct, but it soon will. Cassava Sciences will continue the development of the drug.

“In August 2021, two scientists filed a citizen’s petition with the Food and Drug Administration in which they expressed concerns about the integrity of the drug” (The New York Times).

Alzheimer’s affects millions of people around the world. One in three women are diagnosed within their lifetime, and one in ten men are diagnosed throughout theirs. Those suffering should be weary of drugs, especially the drug simufilam.

The College of New York continues to do their own investigation into the manner, and they plan on announcing a statement soon.

The Wild May Have Built Their Roster On A Flawed Premise

https://hockeywilderness.com/news-rumors/minnesota-wild/the-wild-may-have-built-their-roster-on-a-flawed-premise-r29644/

Overview: The Minnesota Wild had the ninth pick of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, and with that they selected Marco Rossi. Rossi so far has not lived up to the hype, and this has raised the question of, is General Manager Bill Guerin capable of turning this team into a frontrunner? The article dives deeper into the concept of players becoming coaches and executives. The article mentions some good coaches like Bruce Boudreau who had a great coaching career, but a mediocre playing career. Guerin had a great playing career, and so he may not understand players’ capabilities as well as someone who is always looking on the outside. The article faults Guerin on his resignings of Marcus Foligno, Ryan Hartman, and Matts Zuccarello, who are all getting to that age where they will become a lot slower. This is news to hockey fans, as it evaluates a few examples of players who have either become coaches or executives. This is specifically important news to wild fans, as they have always thought of Guerin as the right one, but after reading this article it suggests that these fans should have higher expectations and be more suspective of Bill Guerin, and what he decides to do.

Article: Why did the Wild play a man short in their win in Montreal?

https://www.startribune.com/minnesota-wild-beat-montreal-nhl-rules-salary-cap-relief/600313046/

Overview: the Minnesota Wild, professional hockey team, played with one less player on their team on Tuesday, but it did not seem to matter as the Wild took care of the Montreal Canadians pretty easily. The article suggests the Minnesota Wild have had a slew of injuries impacting their roster, and to begin the season they have been dealing with a tight cap space (amount of money they can spend on players), and most teams around the league are dealing with cap space issues. This is important news to Minnesota Wild fans, but also to National Hockey League fans. Other teams are dealing and will deal with similar situations this season. The cap space has been issue in the league for years, but since Covid the cap has not increased as expected. The cap is forced, so the league can be profitable, and so the teams who have the best fan bases and support, have bigger caps than smaller market teams. The cap usually increases each year, but the past couple of years it has not gone up as much as some have hoped for. Overall The NHL might run into some serious roster issues with every team. This is also important news to sports fans in general, as the situation discusses cap space, which really translates to viewership. It shows the state of the league, and if the cap is not going up the NHL is not growing.

“A Dumpster Fire Like Never Before.” Revised

The Minnesota Vikings have started their campaign 0-3. This marks the second time in three seasons the team has started this way.

There are many personnel to blame. The Vikings offense have had nine turnovers through their first three games.  Fans Tami Bern, Jake McBride, and Jerry Buum weigh in on their team.

Lifelong Viking fan Jake McBride said, “This year’s team is a dumpster fire like never before. That being said, um I do, however, think that they can turn it around.”

2020 was the last time the Vikings started 0-3. They did catch a hot streak later in the season, but they ended up missing the playoffs and finished 7-9.

Head coach Kevin O’Connell is in his second season with the Vikings, and the team is coming off a 13-4 season. Expectations for the organization were extremely high this season.

O’Connell was hired last year by first year General Manager, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah. Coach O’Connell won the Big Game with the Los Angeles Rams, as the Offensive Coordinator. He is the second youngest head coach, only behind the Rams head coach Sean McVay.

“From top to bottom the whole organization should be blamed for the slow start. O’Connell has made some questionable play calls late in the game. However, the turnovers are what is costing us the games. “The team has the talent to make it to the playoffs, there is no denying that” (Tami Bern).

The team is led by one of the best receivers in Justin Jefferson. Kirk Cousins is arguably one of the top ten quarterbacks in the league. His offensive line has done much better this year, as Cousins has been pressured very little, and the team ranks fifth-best in this category.

“I think it is time to start from scratch. Cousins is aging, and not as fine wine. Trade him, and get his contract off the books.Start new, and start young. Too many franchises are scared to start over and admit their wrongdoings. However, with the right people in the front office a rebuild can be accelerated” (Jerry Buum).

Optimism remains in the Vikings fans mentioned above except for Jerry. “Good thing we have the Wild and Timberwolves to look forward to if the Vikings continue to disappoint like they are.”

The NFC North Division might belong in another team’s hands other than the Vikings and Packers this year. The Detroit Lions look really good this year, and Minnesota will have to play them twice this year. Must win games if you are this team.

Minnesota Twins claim their first playoff series victory in 21 years on a night of MLB postseason sweeps

The Minnesota Twins recently snapped their 19 year streak of not winning a single playoff game, as they defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday. Yesterday the Twins beat the Jays to advance them to the American League Division Series for the first time since 2002. Saturday the Twins will head to Houston to play the defending champs. The Astros come in to be the favorite, but this Twins team seems to keep surprising fans, and teams alike.

This is very important news to Minnesota sports fans, and baseball fans, because a team that has struggled for so long is finally looking a little better. Minnesota sports fans are used to the agony of disappointing teams, and since the Vikings are off to a rough start, the Twins are the one bright side for Minnesota. Overall with hockey and basketball season starting soon, hopefully Minnesota sports fans will be treated to two great seasons, but if not the Twins offseason will be entertaining.
