Non-Western Religions

The non-western religions can be very confusing in their beliefs because they are very different from many people’s own views. These religions include Hinduism, Buddhism, and Daoism. The belief everything is one is a very weird concept to understand and I still don’t fully understand the concept. These religions come from Asia and it is a very different culture that seems strange to many. The idea of everything is one and reincarnation go together in the religions. All of the things in the universe are conserved and the people’s spirits are reborn into another body. The basis of reicarnation is decided by one’s past life and the better the person is the better they will be reincarnated. In Hindusim there are three divine aspects of the religion. Brahma is the creator. Vishnu is the preserver of order. Shiva is the maker of chaos, destructionn and sex.
I am a Starbucks addict living in the northern suburbs of Chicago. I am a freelance web designer as well as an internet consultant who can be hired on an hourly basis.
I agree completely that it is confusing because we only have so little time to cover a lot of information and we only have 2 classes a week. I would say it is hard to keep every religion straight because most our similar in some ways and different in a couple ways, but we are also learning about many religions every class period. I always thought of the idea reincarnation was cool because I think it would be neat to come back into the world in a different body because then you not only get to relive life, you also get the chance to see life differently within your new body.
I agree with you when you say the belief that everything is one is confusing because in some cases it doesn’t make much sense and it’s also confusing because I’m not used to that type of beliefs around me or in cultures around me. It’s hard to believe that we have lives after this life and your actions in past life affect your next life because that’s not what most people in the U.S. have been taught. After learning about more of their lifestyles and going over the religions more it’s more clear and learning about Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva helps understand it too.
