Elvis “Religion”

People going on a pilgrimage for the religion based on Elvis and his music is very odd.  It’s hard for many to view this as a religion.  In all reality it has all the needs of how people define religion.  People can view his music as being the myths and as is basically the foundation of the religion.  There are tons of rituals that people perform while at Graceland for his death week.  Part... [Read more about this property...]

Paganism

I have never viewed feminism and religion to be related.  Feminism is related specifically to Pagansim.  I never even knew that Paganism was an actual religion.  Feminists turn to being Pagans because the religion has the Goddess that is one of the main components to the religion.  The Goddess gives birth to the Horned God who then sacrifices himself for her.  This shows for people an equality... [Read more about this property...]

Ganges River

Hindus belief that the Ganges River is Mother Ganga seems very strange to me.  It is hard for me to understand that they worship an objuect such as a river.  The river symbolizes life and they make offerings to the river itself.  For Hinduism Mother Ganga is the center of their religious world.  The pilgrimages that the Hindu people take all involve a circular journey and involve the Ganges River. ... [Read more about this property...]

Non-Western Religions

The non-western religions can be very confusing in their beliefs because they are very different from many people’s own views.  These religions include Hinduism, Buddhism, and Daoism.  The belief everything is one is a very weird concept to understand and I still don’t fully understand the concept.  These religions come from Asia and it is a very different culture that seems strange... [Read more about this property...]

Guest Speaker

The guest speaker we had in class on Tuesday helped me understand really understand pilgrimages.  He was focused on Christian pilgrimages but the concept applies to all religions and pilgrimages.  Remembrance was his key word of why people go on pilgrimages which was very interesting because it seems many people feel as if they have fallen away from religion and need to reconnect.  Even though Chritians... [Read more about this property...]

Islam

I always view the Islamic religion as a very strange religion compared to Christianity.  The fact that it was so unfamiliar to me made me thinkit was something like Buddhism or Hinduism but in reality they worship the same God as Christians and Jews.  This came as a big surprise and this is most likely why many people are somewhat scared of Islam and its followers.  Being an unknown religion to... [Read more about this property...]

Judaism

Judaism is a religion I knew very little about.  After getting into the readings it made me realize that Judaism was the base to the Christian religion.  Judaism is a textual religion based on the Hebrew bible or the Old Testament to Christians.  The religion is monotheistic like Christianity and Islam.  Judaism is also ritualistic like most religions.  The fact that those three religions are... [Read more about this property...]

Kevin Roose’s Study

Kevin’s study was a very interesting way to get into another religion’s point of view.  Many people wonder if he was right in doing his study because the people involved were not asked for their consent.  I believe when Kevin first decided to go to Liberty University, he was trying to study the people and religion.  Shortly after being there, Kevin’s transfer became more of a study... [Read more about this property...]

The 3 Cosmic Levels

I find it weird that all religions believe in the same basics of 3 cosmic levels.  It may just be a way for the religions to have a positive outcome from life by having a heaven type reward and a negative outcome in the underworld.  Every religion wants to be at the center of the world to be closer to the connection to  heaven but there are also closest to the connection to the underworld and that... [Read more about this property...]

Karl Marx on Religion

Karl Marx was born into an era where he was under the control of rich Christian families.  Naturally, Marx would have a bad view of religion because there was no freedom of religion and he was forced into Christainity.  Marx most likely grew up poor in his large family so his thinking of the rich trying to surpress the poor through religion would be an easy thought.  I believe Marx was a selfish... [Read more about this property...]
