Theorists

As we discussed each theorist in class I listened and evaluated them in my head with my own personal values and beliefs. On the first day I came to the conclusion that I agreed more with Durkheim. After we broke each theorist down into parts I finally could understand what the readings meant. But after the first day of discussing Frazer and Durkheim I formed my opinions. I decided that Durkheim was the closes to my definition of religion. I like how he has a fixed system and how the taboos are reasonable.  Some people might not like how its such a fixed system but I think it is just good self discipline. I believe that religion shouldn’t be easy but something you can always be working on to improve.  On the other hand my least favorite theorist is Freud. I think Freud is so black and white and  is just sick in the head. I don’t understand how one person can seriously be that messed up in the head. I think he was just embarrassed of what he did and tried to cover it up.

I also agree with you, when picking one of the theorist’s definitions of religion I felt that Durkheim was the closest to what I would define and view religion as. I feel that his belief in sacred things and practices while he also specified that certain things or off limits defines what I view as religion the closest of any theorist. On the topic of who your least favorite theorist is I agree completely with you when you say that Freud is extremely weird and messed up in the head. I don’t think I found anything in his theory that I would ever agree with and think that his views on religion should almost be taken out of consideration when talking about the other theorists.

I agree with you that Durkheim is the most reasonable theorist towards religion. As I stated in my blog that I am confused about what we have been discussing because it’s all reading and comprehending what we teach ourselves. When we broke down into groups and discussed each theorist, I felt like Durkheim was the only theorist I could make sense out of. I like how Durkheim sets goals to go in order like how our lives should and how we accomplish our own goals, we take one step at a time.
