Makeup For Blaine Interview Day

I interviewed Coach Steve Ryan, the head coach of the Morningside football team before their big game against their GPAC rival Northwestern. Coach Ryan is a veteran when it comes to radio interviews, he reminds me of a lot of professional coaches with how he doesn’t say too much, and gives long generic answers.

Coach Ryan went on to talk about what some of the keys were for beating Northwestern. “We need to stop Kalgonis and Ettleman and we will be just fine on defense. On offense we need to work away from the defensive linemen as they have two former All-Americans on their line. If we run to the outside and pass the ball we will be effective on offense.”

Coach Ryan also went on to talk about what it would be like to win another GPAC championship. “Of course we want to win to a GPAC championship, but that is only one stop on the way of the overall goal. It’s a goal that is necessary to achieve and we look forward to the opportunity to play for it again.”

Coach Ryan is a pretty straightforward man. He thanked me for the interview and showed no emotion during the interview at all. When it concluded Coach Ryan went back to doing what he was doing before like he never stopped.

Isiah Austin, a former Baylor basketball player and likely NBA draft pick was recommend at 2014 NBA combine to quit playing basketball because it could kill him. He was diagonised with Marfan Syndrome of the heart which means if he plays to hard, or his heart rate goes too high, he could die. I  remember this day like it was yesterday. It shocked me and most of the sports world when it happened. He could have been a star in the NBA and that was always his dream and it was shot down very quickly. But then a miracle happened. Isiah Austin has been cleared to return to basketball and that is what this article talks about. It goes on to says doctors have said he is cleared to play basketball again if he wants and he said that on his Instagram that he is ready to return. This article overall is amazing. It really hits you in a place that makes you extremely happy as a sports fan or just a plain human being. I think this article relates to the class because it appeals to all and is a great story so it something you would print on the front of your newspaper or website.

Alec DeVries Profile

Alec DeVries is a senior at Morningside College in Sioux City. Alec is known around campus as the student body president. What most people don’t know is that DeVries is a speedster on the track that has overcome a ton.

DeVries while at Morningside has achieved a school record and All-American status as part of an 3200 meter relay. DeVries has also helped Morningside cross-country win 2 GPAC titles.

“When we got Alec to commit to Morningside it was huge! We had no idea we were even in the ballpark range as he originally told us he wanted to go to college outside of Sioux City. We knew he would immediately help us out,” said former Morningside track captain Jacob Simpson.

And that is exact what DeVries did in his freshmen helping lead Morningside to their first ever GPAC championship in cross-country. At nationals he finished the race while running with a broken foot.

DeVries then would sit out of indoor track to heal up outdoor track. He became an All-American his freshmen outdoor track season by getting 8th at nationals anchoring a 3200-meter where he ran a 1:53 split.

“I define Alec as resilient, relentless, and unwavering. That was why he was able to anchor a 4 by 8 and be so successful, while at a young age, and coming off of a devastating injury,” said head track and cross-country coach Dave Nash.

In his sophomore season at Morningside, DeVries broke the school record for an 8 thousand meter cross-country race and won his first career race. He also help the team win their second ever GPAC championship in school history. DeVries was 4 spots away from being the 2nd ever All-American in cross-country in Morningside history.

DeVries broke his foot again in outdoor track season causing him to miss nationals and all of cross-country season his junior year. Alec never really came back himself the rest of his junior year. “That was a tough year for Alec mentally and physically,” Coach Nash went on to say.

In his senior year so far he has raced at nationals in cross-country, but two days after had surgery for his hernia, which bothered him all season in cross-country.

Now DeVries is looking forward to indoor and outdoor track. “My goal is to become an individual national champion in the mile and a national champion with my boys in the 4×8 relay,” DeVries went on to say.

Mall Stories

Tragedy struck the Mega City Mall Tuesday morning at 9:50 AM earlier today as a explosion happened in the food court taking two peoples lives and injuring less then 100 according to a police report by Captain Fuglsang.

“A fairly large section of the food court was affected by the explosion, and some of the IKEA next to the food court was also damaged,” Fuglsang went on to say.

Both people that were killed were announced dead on the spot by a fire fighter that came to the scene of the crime when the mall was evacuated.

“I was drinking alcohol in the food court when the explosion happened, I immediately grabbed my grandchildren and left,” said mall walker Wesley Brown.

No reports of gas have been reported. Captain Fuglsang also went on to say that they cannot comment on whether this is an attack of terrorism, but Homeland Security has been contacted.

A video was acquired and is being studied by Homeland Security.

One positive came out of the situation. A young, twelve year old girl Jaclyn Arens said “I just wanted to find my dad. And I’m glad I did.” An off-duty officer Jade Nelson helped unit the young girl with her dad Riley.

Tom Herman has accepted the job as head coach at the University Texas. Texas known for having extremely long stints of head coaches. They fired Charlie Strong just after 4 seasons. Tom Herman a surprising but interesting candidate for job the article goes on to say. It is surprising because Herman had only been a head coach for two seasons at the University of Houston. It’s a risky hire most people think, but this article tells you his path to becoming the head coach of Texas and shows you he has actually that position. Overall I think this article is pretty good and will interest most sports fan as it is a great read and interest you. I think this article relates to the class because it shows you how to write an interesting news article with pictures as well.
