News comment #8 ISTRIAN OLIVE OIL MILL INVESTS HALF A MILLION EUROS

26th of October, 2023 More than half a million euros was invested in the production line of one Istrian olive oil mill, and upgrades to the tasting area and packaging are on the horizon.

According to Poslovni Dnevnik, the stunning Istrian Peninsula has been named the world’s most productive olive-growing region for the eighth consecutive year, according to the esteemed Flos Olei guide. It has also been validated by Uljara (oil mill) Torač that it is genuinely among the elite of the olive-growing scene. The Milotić family has been weaving a story from golden drips of locally produced olive oil for six generations.

“With an investment totalling half a million euros, Uljara Torač has remained completely dedicated to excellence, and this can be seen in every step, from hand-picking to cold pressing, which is ultimately felt in the refined taste of our extra virgin olive oil and its enticing aroma. On top of that, investing in the production line isn’t only an investment in Torač itself, but also in the quality of the overall service that this Istrian olive oil mill provides to its partners and customers. Purchasers deserve top-quality processing and the opportunity to get the best from their olives, which is high-quality olive oil,” said Ante Silvo Žaja, the director of Uljara Torač.

I think this news is written well because it tells the news in an organized way in my opinion. It explains when where how about the olive oil investing. Then it also explains how Croatia is dedicated to the olive oil industry as well as succesful. I like how the article also used effective quotes from important people that add strength to the story. The article quotes Ante Silvo Žaja, the director of Uljara Torač . He is the director of one of the biggest olive oil companies in the country and he explains how he feels about the money being invested. So I like how we got two perspectives the one that is just describing what happened with facts, and then when quotes are added from people involved in this story on a closer look.

News Comment #7 SLOVENIA INTRODUCES CONTROLS AT CROATIAN BORDER

Slovenia, which borders Croatia, has reinstated border controls after criticizing Schengen’s passport- and border-free policies.

According to the Schengen regulations, the Slovenian Ministry of the Interior is now putting together a notification for the European Commission (EC), as reported in Poslovni Dnevnik.

Botjan Poklukar, Slovenia’s Minister of the Interior, told N1, “This is a proposal for a temporary measure due to the increased terrorist threat level assessment across many EU countries,” adding that he will work to make life as easy as possible for those who must cross the Slovenian-Croatian border and other borders into Slovenia every day.

Botjan Perne, a security expert from Slovenia, thinks that Slovenians won’t mind if border checks are reinstated because they are delighted to travel to and spend time in different parts of Croatia on the weekends.

According to N1 Slovenia “The Schengen area was one of the main ideas of European unity and was established so that we could cross borders freely without knowing that we’re crossing from one country into another. It was done to give us the feeling that we’re all one. But it’s not like that anymore. Schengen has failed as an idea. Maybe we won’t feel like we’re crossing national borders like we used to, but this isn’t going to be a free border crossing anymore. That’s over with,” said Boštjan Perne for N1.

The Slovenian and Croatian borders will soon be patrolled by border police, according to a recent announcement from the Croatian Ministry of the Interior (MUP). They very briefly said from MUP, “We’re monitoring the development of the situation and, depending on what unfolds, we’ll adjust the police system.”

I think this news is written well because it tells the news from both perspectives. It explains how Slovenia is acting and how they feel as of why they have to have stricter border controls. Then it also explains how Croatia is responding to this situation. I like how the article also used effective quotes from important people that add strength to the story. Slovenia adds quotes from N1 Slovenia one of the most important news outlets in the country. And Croatia uses quotes from the Croatian Ministry of the interior. I like how the article is organized with the information being explained and then introducing quotes.

Article Final: Putin Claims Russia Successfully Tested a Nuclear-Powered Missile

On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir V. Putin asserted that his country had tested the Burevestnik, an experimental nuclear-powered cruise missile, successfully and was nearly finished developing a new kind of nuclear-capable ballistic missile.

President putin stated this according to Valerie Hopkins and Riley Mellen ““No one in their sound mind will use a nuclear weapon against Russia,” Mr. Putin said”.

The SSC-X-9 Skyfall, also known as the Burevestnik and with a designed range of more than 10,000 miles, was tested by Russia, according to a Monday New York Times story.

In March 2018, as part of a larger attempt to create a new generation of intercontinental and hypersonic missiles, Putin launched the program to create the Burevestnik. The Kinzhal ballistic missile and the Avangard hypersonic glider were two among them. In that speech, he declared to the West, “Listen to us now.”

When asked Elizabeth Cazar former teacher for Balandra school in Ecuador said this “It is interesting to see this from Putin I think the way he acts is that he is scared of how close the EU has gotten to Russia and how the west has expanded into the east”

Putin claimed that the Ukraine war had caused the West to lose perspective on reality. He cautioned that the world would have to witness where such arrogance is headed if its leaders lost the ability to negotiate.

When interviewed Anders Staxen a Danish student from Morningside University who specializes in Political Science mentioned “Russia has had nuclear weapons since the Soviet Union developed them in 1949. The Russian testing of this particular nuclear missile is special, however, because it is intercontinental with its range of 10,000 miles. It could theoretically hit Washington D.C. With that said, I seriously doubt that President Putin will ever utilize it as he is well aware of the fact that deploying such missile means the complete annihilation of Russia. Both parties are aware of the concept of mutually assured destruction (MAD)”.

Putin said that the West was responsible for inciting the situation in Ukraine, which he framed as a smaller front in a much broader conflict between Russia and the haughty West.

According to Reuters Putin said, “our Western counterparts appear to have completely forgotten such concepts as reasonable self-restraint, compromises, and willingness to give in to something in order to achieve an acceptable result for everyone.”

news comment #5: EURO 2024 QUALIFIERS: CROATIA-TURKEY TICKETS SELL OUT IN 8 MINUTES

On October 12, at full Opus Arena will be in attendance as tickets for the forthcoming Croatia-Turkey EURO 2024 qualification sell out in only 8 minutes.

This month’s qualifying matches for the 2024 European Championship are still going on, and Croatia’s next challenge will come on October 12 against Turkey in Osijek’s Opus Arena

The Croatian football federation or the HNS had this to say to the fans “As much as we are happy with such interest from the fans, the truth is that the capacity of Opus Arena is too small for everyone who wants to watch the Vatreni on this occasion. Therefore, the decision was made to allow the most loyal fans, 1,000 of them with the most matches in the last five years, to buy tickets in advance, and most of them used this right,”.

Five percent of the available seats in each of the four stands were set aside for supporters of Turkey. Several additional tickets might show up in the ticketing system during the next few days, depending on the potential number of unclaimed (unpaid) and reserved tickets. In any case, we already know that Turkey will be in a packed stadium when Croatia plays them.

I think this is very interesting to see because it shows how football is seen in different countries like Croatia. In this country football is the biggest sport and events like these sell out all the time. It is interesting to see how a country of only 3 million people can be so drawn and interested in soccer as their main sport as well as producing great players who draw that type of attention to see as it’s the captain Luka Modrić. Hopefully in the future a bigger stadium can be built that can more fans in the stadium.

Thomas Ritley

“Opinion based journalism has taken over”. This was said by Thomas Ritley the person we interviewed in class today. This made me think on how news have changed during the years and how now this is popular in news.

He mentioned in the past he used to “write obituaries” when he first got started in the journalism world this is what he would do. He worked for 25 years and then according to him“journalism died” . Which was something interesting to hear and he meant it in the way as a business since it was slowly becoming less popular.

Journalism has now evolved into something you can access from many channels online that maybe could fit a certain narrative that you want to believe. For example websites that support political parties and their ideologies or instead of reading from paper now people are reading from their phone.

With time he also stopped working as a journalist switched up completely, and he became as he said a “strategic marketing specialist who works for insurance”. So he mentioned that this new job “My role is to get people to buy an insurance through internet”. Interesting change from journalism but it is his new reality.

Letter to shareholders summary

Paraphrase:

Dear shareholders,
Steady stewardship has always been part of our growth
philosophy. Deliver what guests want and need . Invest in the team, strategy
and capabilities to Grow steadily, and harvest the benefits.
The discipline has produced continuous growth
through many business environments, with plenty
opportunity ahead. But not all of our recent growth has been steady. In the pandemic years of 2020 and 2021, we spiked to never seen rates
that stretched our limits. Our team was able to support
that growth because the fundamentals were in place,
as well as the connection to guests in an extraordinary moment for our company.
Even in 2022, with constrained consumer demand and massive shifts
in buying behaviors, we grew by more than $3 billion. Today, Target is
more than $30 billion bigger than it was in 2019.

Summary: In this letter to the shareholders we can observe how there is an active explanation to the shareholders about the growth of the company. How even during the pandemic years the company was able to grow to massive levels as Brian Cornell mentions “A significant part of this growth has been driven by traffic. Last year’s traffic gain of 2.1% marked the sixth straight year of growth in this
key metric” showing the growth in percentages which can be worth even more billions. We also see how they like to mention that the costumers which they call guests in this letter are very important as they mention their “connection” as a fundamental factor and Brian mentions “Support our team and lean into our culture, knowing they’re at the
heart of our overall success”, this shows how they care about the team inside which can provide this experiences to the costumers.

News comment #5: Largest Transfer in Hajduk’s history 16 year old wonderkid Luka Vušković signs with Tottenham

In September 25th the biggest transfer in the history of Hajduk happened. They sold 16 year old wonderkid Luka Vušković to Tottenham Hotspur for 12 million pounds.

Luka once he turns 18 he will join the English side in 2025 as a result of the transfer agreement between Hajduk and Tottenham, making him the most expensive defender ever at his age.

Regarded one of the most talented players of his generation. He played for Croatian football clubs at the academy level. He played for Hajduk’s academy team, who finished second in the Youth Champions League, the Academy’s highest finish ever. His goal enabled Hajduk’s junior team to advance in the renowned competition by defeating Shakhtar Donetsk in the round of 16. He also regularly participates in the younger age divisions of the Croatian national team.

In his farewell message Luka had this to say about Hajduk “First of all, I want to thank Hajduk for making this possible for me, the coaches who contributed to my development, the Academy, and all the employees of the Club. In the past months, I was aware of the interest of big clubs from abroad, and I tried to stay grounded, train, and prepare for new challenges. It is a great honor to see that a club like Tottenham has shown such a desire and put in so much effort to bring in a player of my age. This makes me proud, and it certainly motivates me to work even harder on my development and further progress to be as ready as possible for the moment I will play for their first team,.

I think this news come at a great time for Croatian soccer. It is showing how the younger talent is also taking good steps into going to play for the biggest clubs in the world. This also impacts the club in a good way by gaining a good sum of money which can help the club in future transfer buys or infrastructure renovations which can be done with the use of this money. This transfer represents that Hajduk’s youth and other Croatian youth clubs create some of the best talent in the world of football today.

One good conversation with Diego Ocando

Diego has had some experience with volunteering here in Sioux City. He ia part of the soccer team and last year he went with the soccer team to the Southern Hills mall.

He volunteered there for a book event. Diego said that in this event “I moved many books as well as organized them, we put them in different categories and took them out of their donation boxes”.

This experience was really enjoyable since he also mentioned “it was my first time volunteering in Sioux City so it felt good to help my new community, since I live here now”.

Armed Robbery at a store

There was an armed robbery at a new last night at 450 Stanley Street. Two men wearing skimasks entered the store, one held the and while one held a gun on the owner, Barney Joseph, Jr., 43, 1625 11th Ave., the other took $382.65 from the cash register.

This all happened at approximately 8:30 p.m. The men left in a car and escaped the scene.

The owner Joseph has had previous encounters with shootings.

his father was killed during a holdup at the same store, BJ’s Drug, almost 25
years ago.

When asked about it he said. “Yes, Dad resisted, I guess. Anyway, they found him shot to death, his own gun in his hand, and a bullet in the store’s ceiling. I’d rather part with my money than my life,”.

News comment #4: ERICSSON NIKOLA TESLA CONTRACTS 4 MILLION EUROS IN JOBS

During September 14 of 2023 the croatian company Ericsson Nikola Tesla contracted 4 million euros in jobs during the month of July and August.

Poslovni Dnevnik mentioned “in July and August this year, Ericsson Nikola Tesla signed contracts worth more than four million euros without VAT. The company also stated that the contracts are in the field of digital transformation, national security and modernisation, expansion and the maintenance of mobile telecommunications networks”

One of the contracts that was signed was meant to help the school systems in Croatia. This system is called “carnet” it will be the application of digital technology in teaching as part of their eSchool project.

Then another part of the contract offers a project that will install digital wireless weather stations which are also also set to be installed at schools across all Croatian counties. This will be used to analise environmental data by the company.

This comes a great time for business in Croatia because it is doing good business internationally that is worth millions of dollars.

Croatia has also gone international and made business with another Balkan country Montenegro. In the area of national security there have been recent collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Montenegro. A contract for the maintenance of Montenegro’s 112 Center, a single location for all calls made in emergency situations across the entire national area of Montenegro, was signed by the Croatian company.

I think these 3 new contracts that the Croatian company signed will help with the modernization of the country. I think it will help the infrastructure become better which will lead to better quality of life. This also shows how companies have now made good progress in areas such as tecnhnology that allows companies to collaborate at the world stage. This represents that Croatia is entering a new era and is trying to move forward towards the future in a well written and concise way showing the facts with specific explanations and narrations.
