Homer Polar Bear Dead

The eldest polar bear at Midland Zoo was discovered dead this morning at 7 a.m.

Homer was 16 years old when he perished in his exhibit alongside two other polar bears. The bears acted as species ambassadors, enhancing visitors’ awareness of the bears’ endangered status.

The zoo’s director, Chris P Bacon, said the exact cause of death is being investigated.

“We will do everything in our power to determine how this bear died,” Bacon went on to say. “Animal welfare and the preservation of species are our primary goals here at the zoo.”

Since 1985, the Midland Zoo has housed polar bears. The creatures have thrived in the zoo’s natural display, which mimics their arctic environment. Polar bears can engage in the same natural behaviors as their wild relatives, such as playing in snow, digging in gravel, and hunting for trout, thanks to the artificial habitat.

Sara Getty, the zookeeper who discovered the floating body, collaborated closely with Homer and the other polar bears.

“Homer was a very curious and playful polar bear and we will miss him terribly,” according to Getty.

Homer’s exhibit companions, 9-year-old Yukon and 10-year-old McKenzie, have been transferred and are being monitored by veterinary staff.

Trend Story Final: The adidas Samba soccer shoe has become the fashion sneaker of 2023

Adidas creator Adi Dassler created the sneaker as a men’s shoe in 1949. At the time, it was all black, with white three stripes and a gumsole meant to allow soccer players to play on hard and ice surfaces. John Andrade, former professional soccer player in Ecuador during the 1980’s said “ I always wore adidas samba to play indoors; it is the most iconic soccer silhouette in the history of soccer”.

The FIFA World Cup was held in Brazil in 1950, and Adidas called the shoe the Samba, after a traditional Brazilian dance and music genre, as a marketing technique to entice soccer players and fans to buy it.

Diego Setton Brazilian student at morningside said “the world cup being held in Brazil during the 1950’s was special for the country, thus Adidas used this event to promote their new shoe whom with years passing people our age would  wear”

The strategy worked, and the design evolved over time, eventually yielding the leaner profile we see today. It also made its way into the women’s market, and new colors became available.

However, after a few years, the shoe’s great popularity backfired. It quickly became a go-to for dads and men with 9-to-5 professions who weren’t recognized for having sought-after style. That was enough to make the sneaker uncool for girls and males going through adolescence and not cool.

When Grace Wales Bonner unveiled its fourth collection with Adidas in June, which includes a pair of retro-inspired Sambas. Since 2020, Bonner has been redesigning the sneaker with Adidas, and each Graces Wales Bonner x Adidas Samba has sold out instantaneously.

Enzo Taggaliati fashion enthusiast said “ This particular collaboration made the Samba’s become a fashion item more than a sports shoe and it became fashionable to wear”

When the shoe was released, Gen Z flocked to it, thanks in part to Gigi Hadid’s trendsetting powers, but also because it became the surprise sneaker that could lend the required fashion style to every trending TikTok style. They also cost less than $200, which is hundreds, if not thousands, less than the normal price for a supermodel-endorsed It shoe.

Toyota Gives a Little Love This Holiday Season USA – English

I think this news give positive PR to Toyota during the Holiday season by teaming with 100cameras this holiday season

“Present from the Past” tells the story of a young woman who receives a Christmas gift from her grandmother. Inside the package is a vintage camera and a collection of her grandmother’s photos from when she was the granddaughter’s age. Inspired by the camera and with the help of her all-new 2024 Tacoma, the granddaughter decides to recreate the old photos of her grandmother by going to all the same places. Over the course of the following year, she journeys far and wide across the country: to bustling cities, desert canyons, heartland pastures, tranquil forests, secluded coastlines, small town attractions, and beyond. In the final scene, she arrives at her grandmother’s home just in time for Christmas, surprising her with a photo album she’s created from her travels, alongside her grandmother’s photos from the past. Her grandmother becomes overwhelmed with emotion from her granddaughter’s thoughtful gift. “Present from the Past” was created by Saatchi & Saatchi and directed by Lisa Gunning.

The concept that nothing screams love like an airport pickup, especially during the holidays, is at the heart of Toyota’s Hispanic creative. Latinos will never hesitate to pick up their loved ones, even if it means sitting in traffic for hours, because the holidays aren’t complete until they’re all together. The Hispanic commercial, “Arrivals,” depicts familiar scenes of families and friends seeking to locate their loved ones among the rows of cars, despite the weather and traffic. Finally being reunited with their family brings them joy and comfort, knowing they are finally home for the holidays. Conill Advertising designed the bilingual spot, which was directed by Max Malkin.

Toyota is teaming with 100cameras this holiday season to positively influence youngsters around the country. 100cameras is a nonprofit organization that empowers adolescents by partnering with local schools and groups to deliver photography and storytelling programming to develop self-expression, connection, and leadership.

Toyota’s contribution brings Toyota into the 100cameras Impact Circle, which will fund programs for 10,000 pupils over the following year. The Impact Circle collective acts as a support hub for 100cameras’ complete programming platform, which includes virtual learning and hands-on classroom experiences around the country.

Pirulin

It tastes like chocolate hazelnut, it feels good, like fresh sugar, the sensation is like waking up a little bit just like when you drink coffee. It was Very sweet and it is a good snack maybe not the healthiest but it tatste good.

Conversation

My conversation was on the cafeteria. It was with Guillermo Roman a fellow Ecuadorian here in Morningside University. We talked about the soccer game Ecuador will play today against Venezuela. This should be a fun game because we also have Venezuelan people here at Morningside so watching the game with them should be fun. The game is today at 6 pm and we will watch it in Diego’s room hopefully Ecuador will win but that’s something in the future so we will see.

1srt story: Ecuador Elections:

Center-right candidate Daniel Noboa, the 35-year-old son of a banana tycoon, will become Ecuador’s next president, following an election driven by concerns over rising violence and a worsening security situation in the Latin American nation.

In the presidential election, over ten million voters cast ballots; according to figures from the National Electoral Council of Ecuador (CNE), Noboa received 52.3% of the total votes (4,829,130).

Luisa González, the communist candidate and first-round front-runner, was his main political challenger and received 47.7% of the vote (4,404,014), according to the CNE.

Before Guillermo Lasso, the departing president, dissolved the legislature and ordered early elections, Noboa was a member of the legislature.

As the candidate of the Acción Democrática Nacional party, he has promised to increase youth employment, attract foreign investment, combat crime using technology, and propose a number of anti-corruption measures, such as stiffer penalties for tax evasion.

Deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon Falls to a Five-Year Low

Tree loss was down 20 percent from the previous year, the environment minister announced.

Brazil’s National Institute of Space Research announced on Thursday that deforestation in the Amazon rainforest had reached a five-year low. This indicates that the nation, which has the largest share of tropical forest globally, is making headway toward its goal of ending all deforestation by the end of the decade.

Move Over, Machu Picchu: There’s More to See in Peru

In recent years, Peru has engaged in a grass-roots effort to elevate Huchuy Qosqo, Waqrapukara and other archaeological sites that are just as well preserved or culturally significant as Machu Picchu itself.

Elvis Lexin La Torre Uñaccori knows quite well that a wonder of the world often creates a less-wondrous world of waste — he is the mayor of Machu Picchu Pueblo, the gateway village to the bucket-list destination in Peru that draws millions of visitors (and their trash) each year.

Mr. La Torre shared this expertise in waste and waste management in February, at a two-day summit he organized about environmental and infrastructural advances at the Inca citadel. To 99 mayors and other municipal leaders from across Peru, Mr. La Torre spoke about a plastic bottle compactor, a glass bottle pulverizer and a processor his village developed for hotel and restaurant food scraps.

“Machu Picchu is a wonder seen by the world. We are fortunate. But there are many wonders in Peru waiting to be seen,” Mr. La Torre said.

Quote from Chiara del rio peruvian student at mside.

Stuart Scott Paraphrase assignment.

“I am often reminded that the people in our lives have the greatest influence on us. The first thing I did when I learned that I would be receiving this honor was—for a moment—I could not speak. I’ve previously given this award. I mean, I’ve watched in amazement as incredible people like Eric LeGrand and Kay Yow have graced this stage. And yet, I understand it intellectually. I hope my cancer battle and public persona may inspire others. However, deep down, I didn’t feel like I belonged with those amazing people. But 21 years ago, I paid attention to what Jim Valvano had to say. The seven most moving words ever spoken in any anytime, in any speech. “Don’t give up, don’t ever give up” . Not those wonderful people. None did Coach Valvano. I now have an obligation to never give up in order to be honored with this. I’m not unique. I just heard what the man had to say. I paid attention to everything he said and demanded of us. And that’s how the foundation is built. And it really does work, I promise you. I’m referring to concrete advantages. In that clinical trial, you observed me. Here’s the issue with that, though. The remarks of Coach Valvano from twenty-one years ago are still helpful to me and countless of others today. immediate advantages. That’s the significance of all of this, the reason we’re gathered here tonight.

Additionally, I lately came to another realization. In the piece, you heard me sort of hint at that. I said,”I’m not losing. I’m still here, I’m fighting. I’m not losing.” But I’ve gotta amend that. When you die, that does not mean that you lose to cancer. You beat cancer by how you live, why you live and in the manner in which you live. Thus, live. Alive. Battle like crazy. And when you’re too exhausted to battle, take a nap and let someone else take up the struggle. That’s also extremely, extremely crucial. This “don’t give up” stuff is too much for me to handle alone. Thousands of people support me on Twitter and in the streets. At ESPN, I have these truly incredible people. It’s true that I have superiors who are corporate executives, and they would text me. They responded with “hey, I heard you had chemotherapy today, you want me to stop by on the way home from work and pick you up something to eat and bring it to you?” For real? That person? Whose superior is that? They do that, my supervisors.

However, even Despite everything, the battle is still far harder than I even thought. What has likely occurred over the last ten days is what you missed reading about in the article. It was last Friday that I left the hospital. Stayed seven days. Whoa, I gave up. I experienced hepatic problems. My kidneys failed. In the course of seven days, I underwent four procedures. “ I had tubes and wires running in and out of every part of my body. Guys, when I say every part of my body: every part of my body. As of Sunday, I didn’t even know if I’d make it here”. I couldn’t fight. But doctors and nurses could. The people that I love and my friends and family – they could combat. My fiancée could fight, and she slept next to me every night on an extremely uncomfortable hospital cot. Last week, the individuals I care about did what they always do. They came to see me, spoke with me, listened to me, occasionally sat in silence, and showed me their affection. And that is an additional BeFoundation component. This fight, this adventure, is not something that you take on alone. This is an item that needs assistance.

A few days ago, I gave my older sister Susan a call. How come? I had to weep. That’s how easy it was. And I know that I can just cry if I want to, and I can call her, my brother Stephen, my parents, and my other sister Synthia. Those items are also really significant.

There’s one more thing I need. It’s actually two, huh. Two incredibly bright, lovely, and lively young women. Being a father to Taelor and Sydni is the best thing I have ever done and the best thing I will ever do. Yes, it is. I am unable to quit up because I am unable to part from my girls. Yes, I do occasionally make them feel uncomfortable. They sometimes perceive me as a despot. That is an exact quotation. Tyrant is also described by another adjective, but I won’t go there. But I adore you two more than words can possibly say, Taelor and Sydni. My two hearts are yours. It is because of you that I am here tonight on this platform.

Taelor, my eldest daughter, was someone I wanted here. but she’s a college sophomore, summer school starts this week, and the second semester starts next week. I adore you, baby child, but go do you. Proceed to do it. My tiniest angel has arrived. Fourteen is my age. I need a hug, Sydni, so come on up here and give dad one.

“I want to say thank you ESPN, thank you ESPYs, thank you all of you. Have a great rest of your night and have a great rest of your life”.

News comment #9 8000 NEW TREES TO BE PLANTED ACROSS ZAGREB

On November 2, 2023 – The most recent announcements from the mayor state that some 8,000 new trees will be planted throughout the City of Zagreb over the course of the next five months.

According to Poslovni Dnevnik, 46 different kinds of seedlings will be used in the planting of these new trees, and the City of Zagreb plans to fund the project in its whole with almost four million euros.

Eight thousand trees means that we’ll have one new tree for every 100 inhabitants in the City of Zagreb this season. We’re going to continue this pace next season as well. Honey maple will be the most represented species that we will plant, but there will also be ash, black pine, and ornamental cherry trees, which I believe will make many people happy. Of course, these will primarily be planted along city avenues and main roads, as well as in green areas, especially in parks where there were no trees or there weren’t enough trees,” explained the mayor.

I think this news is written well because it tells the news I would say directly. It catches you with the title of the 8000 trees, which is a large number. It tells the news in an organized way in my opinion. It explains when where how about the trees they will be planting. I like how the article also used effective quotes from important people that add strength to the story. They do this by explaining how the major Tomislav Tomašević feels about this and quote him on this process which makes it feel authentic like it’s coming straight from the source.

Is Social Media Addictive?

Our delicate relationship with online social information has come to the spotlight as a result of a significant lawsuit against Meta.

41 states and the District of Columbia filed a lawsuit against Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger on Tuesday, claiming the company intentionally employed features on its platforms to encourage compulsive use by children.

A more fundamental concern about conduct is brought up by the lawsuit’s accusations: Are young people growing dependent on social media and the internet? These are the findings of the research.

David Greenfield, a psychologist and founder of the Center for Internet and Technology Addiction in West Hartford, Conn., said the devices lure users with some powerful tactics. One is “intermittent reinforcement,” which creates the idea that a user could get a reward at any time. But when the reward comes is unpredictable. “Just like a slot machine,” he said. As with a slot machine, users are beckoned with lights and sounds but, even more powerful, information and reward tailored to a user’s interests and tastes.

Meta responded to the lawsuit by saying that it had taken many steps to support families and teenagers. “We’re disappointed that instead of working productively with companies across the industry to create clear, age-appropriate standards for the many apps teens use, the attorneys general have chosen this path,” the company said in a statement.

Dr. Michael Rich, the director of the Digital Wellness Lab at Boston Children’s Hospital, said he discouraged the use of the word “addiction” because the internet, if used effectively and with limits, was not merely useful but also essential to everyday life. “I prefer the term ‘Problematic Internet Media Use,” he said, a term that has gained currency in recent years.
