Intro. to Religion-Pilgrimage

Just a few thoughts that have been rolling around in my head…  We say that each one of the religions we have studied has some form of a pilgrimage.  We see that each religion has value in these pilgrimages and that each one is different.  Some are very different than others.  So are the ones that are very different still pilgrimages?  I think it is safe to say they are; we’ve classified them as pilgrimages all along.  So, there must be similarities among all the forms of pilgrimage or we wouldn’t keep classifying them under the same category.  These similarities must be what defines a pilgrimages.  If you add differences, then one or more forms of pilgrimage must be excluded.  This can’t happen unless we don’t classify all the forms we’ve studied as pilgrimages.  So to come up with a good definition of pilgrimage, we must compare all the pilgrimages we’ve studied and find the similarities.

A Few Important Similarities:

  • Movement
  • Connection to higher power
  • Connection to past story (myth)

I think that this post was very true, Sometimes pilgrimages can be confusing because we have talked about so many of them, but no matter how significant the pilgrimage is, it is still one. We have discussed many types of pilgrimages that can be difficult to understand but that play big roles into what religion is. Some people think that pilgrimage is the most important part of religion, but that is just their opinion.
