Why I chose Liberal Arts

All of my college options were liberal arts schools.  Liberal arts played a huge role in my college decision.  I did not want to go to a large non-liberal arts school.  I did not know what I wanted to major in, but I had a few options floating around in my head.  I researched liberal arts schools and found out that they are very open to students like me who don’t know what they want to do.  I also wanted a well rounded education so I could be more successful in the workplace.  Employers want employees who can be imaginative and aren’t limited to one certain skill.  It is like the old saying, “Kill two birds with one stone.”  Employers want to save money just like we do, so they hire employees who can cover more than just one certain job.  Also, a liberal arts education will give you the knowledge and skills you need to think about how what you do relates to or affects other areas.  This is what employers want.

I ended up choosing Morningside because they were the liberal arts school that seemed most open to undecided students.  They wanted me to come in not knowing what I want to do.  Morningside also seemed to be the college out of my top three that prepared their students for the world.  They prepare students socially (communication) as well as intellectually.  They don’t just throw you in the books in many different areas to achieve liberal arts.  Morningside develops you as a person.  They seem to emphasize the parts of a liberal arts education that I believe I need to learn in order to be successful after college.
