Honors-Oogy and Homer

Oogy and Homer have somewhat similar stories.  Oogy is a surviving bate dog for dog fighting.  Bate dogs are thrown into pins with fighting dogs just to test the fighting dogs.  Oogy’s face was extremely torn up on one side and he is very lucky to be alive.  He was excepted into a loving home and now is a loving house pet.  Homer was a cat that had to have both eyes removed.  Both of his eyes were sown shut making it impossible for him to see.  Homer was also taken into a loving home and lives a very good life.

First off, I just want to say that people who dog fight are absolutely disgusting.  How could you raise and train animals for the sole purpose to fight and tear each other apart?  Dogs do not deserve that.  Both Oogy and Homer share a similar type of beauty because of their stories.  Both were damaged physically with little chance of ever having normal lives again.  Because their owners had the heart to take them in, both can live normal lives in loving homes.  The beauty is that it looked like they had very little chance of ever having a good life again, but because they were taken in by these people, they can live normal lives just like any other dog or cat.

I would think that ugly or abused animals are most easily adopted because of humans’ compassion and love for animals.  We feel sorry for those that are hurt or abandoned, and then we want to make their lives better.  We feel that it isn’t fair that they have gone through what they have, so we want to “make it up to them.”  We want to make it right.

There could be multiple reasons that black cats and dogs are the hardest to get adopted.  One reason is that black can hide imperfections in the physical appearance of animals.  This takes away from the sorry feeling that people get.  Also, black is sometimes associated with evil or aggressive.  This can also scare pet lovers away from adopting them.  I believe the way humans see beauty in animals is based on emotions

I was interested to read your opinion about dog-fighters. What is your opinion about people who are professional boxers? Or those that participate in mixed martial arts or ultimate fighting?

I am also against boxing and ultimate fighting because they cause unneeded harm on the body. People of different religions may view this differently, but as a Christian, God has given me the command to treat my body as a temple. This means I need to take care of it and not harm it. Even though I do not support these fighting activities, I am not anti-boxing or anti-ultimate fighting. Humans have the ability to rationalize. They make the choice to fight and abuse their body. Animals cannot rationalize like this. Dog fighters draw out the aggressive instinct in dogs in their training. The dogs aren’t fighting for the same reasons their trainers and spectators want them to. They are fighting because of an instinct that has been intensified by trainers. The dogs have no control over whether they fight or not because they do not have rational minds.
