Meet Bryce Kremer

Bryce Kremer was born November 15, 2001, to Steve and Gale Kremer. He grew up in Cherokee, Iowa, where he became a beloved member of the community from an early age. As a third grader, Kremer would go to different events with his parents and from then on, the Cherokee community loved him.

The community gravitated toward Bryce because of his work ethic and success in different endeavors. There was not much Bryce didn’t do in high school, so he was always in the hometown newspaper and garnering attention from community members.

As Bryce became a senior, he was poised to accomplish some big things. Throughout the fall, he was winning cross country races left and right and finally fulfilled his dream of punching his ticket to compete at state cross country. He placed thirtieth in a competitive field of runners, but that did not satisfy Bryce, considering he went into the race ranked in the top ten. “I choked pretty hard”, said Kremer.

That experience only made Kremer’s hunger to compete stronger. After finishing his senior year at Cherokee, Bryce committed to run cross country and track at Morningside University (then, Morningside College).

Excited to start his new chapter, Kremer dove headfirst into the “college experience”. “I knew it would be fun, not matter how running went, I was excited,” said Kremer. Bryce knew that the college experience was about having fun, meeting new people, and trying new things. Although he chose Morningside, Bryce realized quickly that Morningside might have chosen him too. “It was one of those things where I didn’t really have a doubt. I knew I didn’t want to visit anymore schools after I visited Morningside.” explains Kremer.

Kremer has made some lifelong friends here at Morningside thanks to the track and cross-country teams, but he also credits living in the dorms and seeing so many people on a daily basis as why he has made so many lifelong friends. One friend, Caleb Roggenbuck, who is also roommates with Bryce, said “we may not always see eye to eye, but that has kind of become the reason our friendship works.” Another close friend of Bryce’s, Tyler Carney, said “Bryce is just a genuine guy that you can always count on for stuff. He makes it easy to be his friend.”

Bryce Kremer has had a life full of successes and failures, but he remains grounded through it all, not taking anything for granted. In the near future, Bryce plans to attend chiropractic school, meaning he would transfer out of Morningside. This has him feeling anxious, “it’s a new experience that will probably be tougher than here at Morningside.” Despite his feelings of anxiety, he is also excited to start another new chapter in his life, just like two years ago when he chose Morningside.

Classmate Anecdote

Being mature isn’t just something adults have to do.

Bryce Kremer has an understanding of maturity that not many people have. When he was in fourth grade his father was deployed to Afghanistan so for Kremer this meant being the man of the house.

His family had just adopted two little girls from Korea not long before and now his father was not going to be around for a while. This meant that Kremer would have to help take care of his new sisters a lot.

Gail Kremer, Bryce’s mother, was very busy now that her husband had been deployed. Which meant Bryce needed to grow up quickly in order to help, not just around the house, but with taking care of his sisters as well.

As a fourth grader, Bryce matured far quicker than his peers at the time thanks to this newfound responsibility. Now that he was the man of the house, Bryce had a new appreciation for what his parents did. “Having to sacrifice certain things in order to help my family was not easy”, said Kremer. ” I think it was a good learning experience and helped me mature a lot for my age, and I wouldn’t trade my sisters for anything.”

I read an article on Mississippi’s new abortion law that bans the procedure after 15 weeks. Earlier in the semester I wrote about the Texas abortion law, and I was curious if that would affect other states. Now we see that it clearly is, and we now have 2 states in the Union who are putting more strict regulations on abortion.

The article itself is written well. It’s easy to follow, the importance of information is good, and it doesn’t drone on toward the end like other articles I have read. It does feel like the author of the article is more liberal and does not agree with the subject matter, but that only seems to show a couple times in the article.

I read the article about Shiran Nathaniel for my news comment this week. It is a grim topic but an interesting story. It is weird to think he worked here and now he’s facing felony charges for child pornography. The writing in the story is good and it was easy to keep reading but I’m not sure if that is more because of the subject of the article or the formatting of it.

Would you rather go to the moon with Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos?

The proper answer is Elon Musk because SpaceX and NASA are working together to get humans back to the moon for the first time since 1972. SpaceX won the contract to work with NASA over Blue Origin, Jeff Bezos’s company.

Work on the moon lander project has finally resumed after a six month legal battle between SpaceX and NASA and Blue Origin. Blue Origin missed out on the moon lander contract to SpaceX. Thursday, November 4th, a federal judge ruled in favor of SpaceX again.

The decision came after months of back and forth between the two space companies. Blue Origin sued NASA because they felt as if the contract was unfairly awarded to SpaceX. Blue Origin did however land a smaller contract to design a lunar lander.

Now that the legal battles are through, work on the Artemis program, NASA’s flagship effort to get back to the moon, will resume immediately. All is not lost for Blue Origin however, because more contracts for more lunar missions will be announced next year.

NASA did originally want to have multiple lunar lander programs but that was quickly changed after they were awarded limited funding by Congress. With only a quarter of what the White House requested for funding it made sense to choose SpaceX, whose bid was half the price of Blue Origin’s.

NASA hopes to reach the moon by 2024 which even before the legal challenges seemed unrealistic. The litigation forced NASA and SpaceX to pause their work for six months and now 2024 could be off the table.

Was Kyle Rittenhouse in the right or the wrong?

Kyle Rittenhouse is currently the defendant in a homicide case where he shot three men and two of them died. Rittenhouse testified on the stand for hours, sobbing, giving detailed accounts of what happened before, during, and after the shooting on August 25th, 2020.

Rittenhouse is being charged with six criminal counts, including intentional and reckless homicide, reckless endangerment and illegal possession of a firearm. His testimony was given amid clashes and shouting in the courtroom. The judge and the prosecutor sparred bitterly over the judicial procedure.

Mr. Rittenhouse’s defense team called for a mistrial with no possibility of retrial because the prosecutor, Thomas Binger, might be purposefully sabotaging his own case to avoid an acquittal.

Rittenhouse, who was 17 at the time of the shootings, joined other armed civilians in downtown Kenosha, Wisconsin to help protect property. This came after the shooting of a black man, Jacob Blake, by a white police officer, Rusten Sheskey.

Mr. Rittenhouse has had no debate over the basic facts of the case: He shot and killed two men and wounded a third, with a rifle that a friend had bought on Rittenhouses’ behalf that year.

“I didn’t do anything wrong,” Rittenhouse said, “I defended myself,” explaining why he had fired his gun eight times. Rittenhouse was grilled with several questions asking why he was carrying a gun if he was only there to give medical care and protect property. “I brought the gun for my own protection,” Rittenhouse stated, adding he did not think he would feel the need to use it.

Transfers and Super Seniors are abundant in college basketball this season.

College basketball is underway again after a couple of showcase games at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night. The Garden hosted four of the most prestigious college basketball programs to kick off the season. Duke and Kentucky traded blows before Duke, who is ranked No. 9, took home the victory. Following that game, No. 3 ranked Kansas topped Michigan State.

Ochai Agbaji led the Jayhawks with 29 points and after the game said, “to be on this stage, be in this moment, lead my team to a win, that’s why I came back.” Agbaji spent part of the off-season deciding between the NBA draft and returning to Kansas.

Gonzaga returns to No. 1 in the preseason polls despite losing Jalen Suggs and Corey Kispert, who were crucial pieces to the team that made it to the NCAA championship game last season. But the Bulldogs’ star player, Drew Timme, is returning as well as Andrew Nembhard, the veteran point guard. Chet Holmgren, number 1 ranked prospect of his class, joins the bulldogs this season as well.

There are a slew of big names not starting the season. The biggest being Mark Few, head coach of the Gonzaga Bulldogs. He was suspended one game for driving under the influence in September in Idaho.

The super seniors across the nation are taking advantage of the extra year of eligibility that they were granted thanks to the pandemic. The Big East Conference has 28 fifth-year players among just 11 schools, with each school having at least one.

Not only are the super seniors ready for the season, but so are the transfers. In April the NCAA ruled that all transfers would be eligible to play immediately instead of being required to sit out a season. A third of Division 1 men’s college basketball players transferred after last season.

I chose to do my comparison on Facebook and their name change. Facebook Inc. will now be Meta Platforms Inc. In the article from AP News I like the writing. It’s formatted well too. In comparison to the newscast it is very different. I liked the newscast much more because it just gave me the information that I needed and didn’t just drone on. I stopped reading the article after the first 4 paragraphs because it got boring even though it was good at the same time. Like I said the newscast was just better in my opinion because it was short, sweet, and to the point which I definitely prefer as a consumer.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/news/haunted-car-wash-brings-new-halloween-fright-to-siouxland/ar-AAPZ9tQ?ocid=entnewsntp

I liked this story because it is from a local news station. The story is not long at all but I thought it was interesting because I have never seen a haunted carwash before. I thought the writing was nice and short but also gave me what I needed to know. I really liked the quote they included as well, I thought that was very profound.

I liked the story because it was local and seasonal with Halloween a few days away. The proceeds for the carwash are for charity so it was kind of heart-warming as well.

Why cremation has overtaken burial in America (msn.com)

This article was intriguing because I personally would rather be cremated when I die than have a traditional funeral. The article details the authors personal experience with the debate of funeral or cremation which I found actually kind of insightful. They also talk about a how cremation rates are going up dramatically in America and the world in general.

Overall really liked the article. I even listened to the podcast that the article was based off of. The author does a great job of getting on a relatable, personal level that I liked.

Change Your Point of View

Planet Fitness, a place of self improvement, self discovery, and a place of no judgement. On an average day I go to the gym and lift late in the afternoon or at night. Today was different, I decided to go early in the morning before my classes. I woke up at 7:30am and went to Planet Fitness at 8:00am with two of my friends.

The drive to the gym felt longer than normal. The sun was shining down from the east with such an intensity to it that I could not see the various stoplights until I was much closer. As we pulled into the parking lot, I noticed there were not as many cars as usual.

The first thing I noticed as I walked into the gym was the fact that my friends and I were the only people there under the age of 40. I walked up to the counter to scan my phone and it took several attempts to scan when on an average day it takes one or two attempts.

As I began my workout I noticed that my mind was still not fully awake but my body was ready to go. I began on the cable machines, using a straight bar for bicep cable curls. The straight bar was squeaking with every rep like a grandmother’s old rocking chair.

Next, I noticed the smell. All of the other people in the gym were using the sanitizer as if it were a bottle of Febreze. I could feel my nose hairs crying for help while being singed off thanks to the sanitizer being used like air freshener.

When it was time to leave my friends and I did the same thing we always do and weighed ourselves whilst talking about how good of a pump we got. As we walked out of the gym I noticed that the sun was no longer shining down with as much intensity as earlier in the morning.

Gushers Description

Gushers are slimy, gooey, fruity deliciousness. They are firm until they enter your mouth then they soften to reveal a gooey center as if a volcano of fruity flavor had just erupted in your mouth. After eating Gusher’s, one must dig the remains out of their teeth like a person mining for gold.
