Last night was my first host home experience of tour. Katie, Liz, and I stayed with the Schoettes family and they were so wonderful to stay with! Their home was beautiful and Leslie, the mom, was so gracious to us. We had a bonfire on the porch with their daughter Karly and her friends as we talked about their first year of college, where we all enjoyed many s’mores. We hung out in clothes they provided so ours didn’t smell like camp fire, which we didn’t even think about until Leslie mentioned it. She told us afterwards, “I’m such a mom!” but we appreciated all she did for us. Two guys from the choir, John and Chris, came over with another family to join us around the fire as we talked about the cardboard cutout of Taylor Lautner Chris got to sleep by that night. : ) In the morning, we packed our lunches and made sandwiches as she made us eggs, toast, cinnamon rolls, and fresh-baked cookies. We were definitely full when we left and we definitely had a great time staying there.
As we head for Ohio, we have watched Despicable Me and Mega Mind (it was apparently kid’s day on the bus) and I’m currently playing Catch Phrase with the back of the bus. The weather has been pretty gloomy today, but I think we all are feeling pretty excited and are getting into the swing of things for tour. It should be an exciting night in Akron, Ohio, and I look forward to the concert tonight!
So today was the second day of tour and probably one of my favorite days on tour so far! We had an amazing concert in Akron, Ohio with a wonderful crowd of people. The church just sounded fantastic and was a great place to sing. The host home that we had afterwards was probably one of my favorite host homes I have ever been in. The host mom was just hilarious and was a fantastic person to talk to she was so personable and just an over all nice person. It was just an overall great day and a great night; it will probably be one of my most memorable days for a long time.
Thank you Morningside for a wonderful concert experience! We were so happy to have you stop through on your way to Carnegie Hall. Best of luck on the rest of your tour!
We are currently on our way to New York City and making our way through Pennsylvania. So far the tour has been terrific. The only downfall so far is the amount of rain that we have had. The Batavia, IL concert was a good start and we had a pretty good crowd. Right before the concert myself and another senior had time to give our senior speeches. These are typically given right before a concert by the chosen senior or seniors in this case. We talk about how choir has affected our college careers, our memories that are meaningful for us, and typically some funny obscure quote from Mr. Watson. After the concert we meet up with our host families and head for “home.” While on an in country tour, the choir often splits up into groups and families will take us in for the night. These have been great experiences and can be some of the most memorable moments on tour. For example, during my first home stay we came to the conclusion that the home that we stayed at was officially Jamaican ground. So that night I stayed in a foreign country. Mark that one off my list. The next morning we left for Akron, OH. It was another long trip, but it was a beautiful drive. Akron and the church were gorgeous. We had an amazing turnout for this concert and we did a terrific job. We are now only a few hours away from New York City. I’m really looking forward to the rest of this trip!
