Stuart Scott Speech

Stuart Scott received the Jimmy V Perseverance Award and talked about his battle with cancer. One of the first things he said during his speech was “Every day I am reminded that our life’s journey is really about the people who touch us.” This speech showed how grateful and honored he was to be receiving this award. He has presented this award to other public figures, and he did not believe he belonged with them. He also quoted something Jim Valvano said to him many years ago. He said, “Don’t give up, don’t ever give up.” Scott is battling cancer, but he is not going to give up.

“When you die, that does not mean that you lose to cancer. You beat cancer by how you live, why you live and in the manner in which you live.” Scott then proceeds to mention the people he lives for. His two daughters, Taelor and Sydni, to which he says “I can’t give up because I can’t leave my daughters.” He then invites his youngest daughter to the stage for a hug and thanks everyone before exiting the stage.

An R.S.V. Shot for Infants Is in Short Supply. Here’s What to Know.

Health officials have revised their recommendations on which children should receive the new R.S.V drug. Pediatricians and parents are having difficulty accessing a new immunization used to prevent severe respiratory syncytial virus infections in infants.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention initially recommended that it be given to all infants who are less than 8 months old, and to children 8 to 19 months old who have an increased risk for severe R.S.V. The C.D.C issued an alert about the drug’s limited availability and said doctors who currently have doses should prioritize babies who are at the highest risk for infections.

This article appeals to parents. It contains very important information about the availability of vaccinations that their children will need. It also informs parents if their child is a part of the high risk group and has high priority in getting the vaccination.

Woman in Critical Condition After Man Pushes Her Into Subway Train

A 30-year-old woman was in critical condition on Wednesday after a man described by law enforcement officials as emotionally disturbed pushed her into a moving subway train in an apparently random attack at a Manhattan station. Witnesses said the attacker was talking to himself before he pushed her.

The woman fell onto the subway tracks after her head hit the train, the Police Department’s chief of transit said. “Good Samaritans” helper her bak onto the platform. She was taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital with a head injury and was in critical condition.

The suspect was identified as Sabir Jones, 39. Police Chief said Mr. Jones was “known to the department.”

I think the first half of this story is very well written. It clearly states what happens and who was involved. Although, the second half of the article seemed a little irrelevant to the story. The second half proceeds to discuss multiple different women who have experienced the same incident. While these stories are also important, I feel they would be better in their own separate story.

Thomas Ritchie Interview

Thomas Ritchie currently works in marketing at Great West Casualty Insurance as a Strategic Digital Marketing Specialist. Before, he was in journalism for twenty five years. When asked the reason for this change he responded “journalism is dead.” He did not mean journalism is “dead,” it has just changed in multiple ways.

Journalism still exists but is much smaller and different than in the past. “Social media has changed everything.” said Ritchie. Social media has changed the consumer buying process and the way consumers think.

Although he was disappointed to leave the world of journalism, he found joy in the world of marketing. “I love that I can go to work everyday and it’s never the same.” Ritchie said.

A lot of the work he does now is lead generation and social media. He writes and creates content for their blog and social media sites. His main goal is to get people to go to the website and convert.

Was New York City Unprepared to Handle Last Week’s Extreme Rainfall?

The city comptroller and the City Council will launch separate inquiries into the city’s preparation for the storm. The city’s preparation for the storm and its responses are facing scrutiny.

Mayor Adams did not brief New Yorkers on the storm until after the epicenter had begun to move north of the city on Friday, drawing concern about his crisis management skills.

This article is not super important to me or the people around me just because of proximity. This happened halfway across the country, so it does not really affect my life in any way. Even though this does not affect me, this article is important so New York can better prepare for the future.

Morningside’s Career Closet

The Career Closet is a helpful resource for Morningside students, but not many students outside of the School of Business are aware of the opportunities at their fingertips. The School of Business at Morningside University is home to the Career Closet, an organization ran by Business Honors. The Career Closet gets donations of gently used professional attire for students to take for free.

Rachel Spier, a Junior Biology and Chemistry major, did not know the Career Closet could benefit non-business students. Spier was asked why she has not visited the Career Closet.

“I didn’t know I could.” she replied.

While some non-business students do not know the resource is available to them, some do not know about the Career Closet at all. Nick Philthilath, a Junior Biology major, is one of those students. Philthilath was asked to mention everything he knew about the Career Closet.

“I don’t know what that is.” he replied.

After a brief explanation of what the Career Closet is, Nick seemed interested in what it has to offer. “I might have to check it out!” he said.

The closet is located in room LC 108 and is open during business hours for students.

Target Financial Summary

Target has experienced never before seen growth rates from 2020 to 2021, and continued to grow by more than $3 billion in 2022. A significant part of this growth is due to traffic. “Last year’s traffic gain of 2.1% marked the sixth straight year of growth in this key metric.” This shows the trust and loyalty Target is building with their guests.

“Our team moved into this year with a lot of energy, a unified commitment to guests and growth and a companywide focus on retail fundamentals and efficiency.” In 2023, Target will continue to support their team and lean into their culture. They will also invest in their store remodel and expansion plans, deliver a steady cadence of newness in owned and national brands, and bring the magic of “Tar-zhay” to life.
