Woman in Critical Condition After Man Pushes Her Into Subway Train

A 30-year-old woman was in critical condition on Wednesday after a man described by law enforcement officials as emotionally disturbed pushed her into a moving subway train in an apparently random attack at a Manhattan station. Witnesses said the attacker was talking to himself before he pushed her.

The woman fell onto the subway tracks after her head hit the train, the Police Department’s chief of transit said. “Good Samaritans” helper her bak onto the platform. She was taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital with a head injury and was in critical condition.

The suspect was identified as Sabir Jones, 39. Police Chief said Mr. Jones was “known to the department.”

I think the first half of this story is very well written. It clearly states what happens and who was involved. Although, the second half of the article seemed a little irrelevant to the story. The second half proceeds to discuss multiple different women who have experienced the same incident. While these stories are also important, I feel they would be better in their own separate story.

  1. That’s kind of the way the NYT works. The story that actually appeared
in print was probably shorter. But since the internet is infinite, why not
    include everything?

These stories about subway violence have been fairly common the last
year or two. If I was a New Yorker I would definitely be on the lookout
when I was waiting for the train.
