Mega City Mall Explosion

Today our thoughts and prayers are with those who were injured, and with their families. Mall staff are working hand in hand with police and law enforcement to sort out this morning’s events. We will find answers and we will keep the public informed of our investigation.

Frisky Cream Donut and Penny Dreadful have abstained major damage and the Mega City 17 theatre has minor damage. Bell Tacos employee gave us some insight after the incident. “I was on my break and heard an explosion. I looked out and there was damage everywhere. People were screaming and running.”

We also heard from a high school student who prefers not to be named. “I didn’t know this was going to happen. If I did, I wouldn’t have skipped school. I fled the scene.”

For the moment, the mall will be closed until engineers can assess the stability of the mall’s structure. Be assured, however, the mall will reopen in time for everyone to complete their holiday shopping. The holidays are an important time for families to come together and celebrate the season.

Homer the Polar Bear

Sadness spread through the Midland Zoo today when Homer, a 16 year old polar bear, was found dead this morning.

Zookeeper Sara N. Getty found Homer floating in the pool of the polar bear exhibit at 7 a.m., about an hour after his feeding. Getty showed her remorse by saying “Homer was a very curious and playful polar bear and we will miss him terribly.”

Homer was the oldest polar bear at the exhibit, with the other two polar bears being 9 and 10 years old. The other two polar bears were removed from the exhibit and are being monitored by veterinary staff. Senior veterinarian staff, Dr. Shanda Lear said, “The zoo will perform a necropsy to try to determine the cause of death. The results will not be available for several weeks.”

Dr. Shanda Lear also mentioned a 10 year old female bobcat, Regina, died of renal failure last week and a 6 year old giraffe, Kenya, died two weeks ago after her horns got caught in her stall. Zoo director confirmed that the two other animals had died this month, but stated the deaths are unrelated.

Polar bears have thrived at the zoo since 1985. The unique exhibit allows the bears to engage in natural behaviors, playing in manufactured snow, digging in gravel and hunting trout in the chilled pool. The bears are ambassadors for their wild relatives, educating zoo visitors about these threatened animals. Zoo director Chris P. Bacon said, “We will do everything in our power to determine how this bear died. Animal welfare and the preservation of species are our primary goals here at the zoo.” Bacon assured us that today’s incident will be investigated to determine the exact cause of death.

Mside Webpage Analysis

The story I choose was about Bette, Alex Watters’ golden retriever. I would consider this story to be news because Morningside students care and Bette has been very beneficial for students’ mental health and overall happiness on campus. Potential audiences for this story would obviously be Morningside students and staff who want to see Bette. I also think parents would be interested in this story because it is nice to know there are resources on campus that help students and make them smile.

The purpose of this story is to inform people of who Bette is and when she is available on campus. Readers will gain knowledge about Morninside’s animal ambassador and learn about what she does for people on campus.

Trend Story Final

Reality competition TV shows, such as “Dancing with the Stars”, has seen an increase in popularity. This season, they saw an increase of 1.72 million viewers during the season premiere. This placed them ahead of other shows such as “The Voice” and “America’s Got Talent”.

I talked with senior, Allison Johnson, to find out why she loves the show. “I think it’s fun to see their improvement each week. By the end, it’s hard to believe these people had little or no previous dance experience.”

Season 32 of “Dancing with the Stars” wrapped up with a shocking twist during the semifinals elimination. For the first time in “Dancing with the Stars” history, five couples advanced to the finale to compete for the Mirrorball Trophy. This also lead to a major increase of viewers for the finale.

I also met with sophomore, Sam Sonier, who has been a lifelong fan of “Dancing with the Stars”. “I have always loved watching the show with my family. We even went to their live tour in Omaha to see them perform in person.”

The season ended with Marvel star Xochitl Gomez taking home the trophy.

PR Analysis

“The Salvation Army Calls On Donors To Help Their Neighbors in Need this Giving Tuesday”

The Salvation Army, the nation’s largest private provider of social services, is asking the public for support this Giving Tuesday. In 2022, The Salvation Army saw requests for assistance increase anywhere from 10% to 40% in some communities. The organization expects the number of requests for assistance could increase another 13%. The Salvation Army remains committed to its mission to meet human needs without discrimination, no matter the cost.

Last year, donations to The Salvation Army helped the organization to:

  • Keep 3.1 million families in their homes and the lights on.
  • Provide more than 155 million meals and 8 million nights of shelter.
  • Help 600,000 disaster survivors and first responders access food, shelter, and emotional and spiritual care.
  • Give over 550,000 children a safe place to play and learn at summer and day camps.

The Salvation Army Helped nearly 24 million people in 2023 overcome poverty, addiction, and spiritual and economic hardships.

This PR release is similar to the news articles we have read all semester in the sense that it provides the reader with important information. It tells people the information they want to know in a clear and concise way. This PR release feels more persuasive compared to the other news articles. They are looking for another way to get people to donate to their cause rather than just inform people about what The Salvation Army does.

Anecdote Story

Maren is patient. She was working at a firework stand in the summer of 2019. She sold a bunch of fireworks to a man on the Fourth of July. The next day, this man came back and demanded a refund. He claimed that this firework stand was responsible for blowing off his hands, but he clearly had no physical injury to his hands. Maren calmly said that she could give him a partial refund or she could call her manager, who was out of town. He said he wanted to speak to a manager. She called her manager and calmly tried to talk the man down while she drove to the store.

The man did not get his money back.

Description Extra Credit

I took myself shopping and bought a book I normally would not buy. The book was on sale the day I bought it, so I thought “why not.” There was no better time than now to try out a book that is different from what I normally read. When I first saw the sale sign, I felt overjoyed and excited. Books are fairly expensive and rarely go on sale. This sale was an early Black Friday deal. I slowly and carefully scanned the shelves until I saw a book that caught my eye.

I looked for a copy that was in perfect condition. No bend pages or scratches on the cover. I dug to the back of the pile and found my book. When I picked up the book, it felt light and the cover was smooth. The pages were floppy but the spine was sturdy. I put the book in my basket and proceeded to check out.

The book I purchased has been recommended to me by my best friend for quite some time. I am excited to read it and be able to talk about the story with her.

Food Description

The food I tried was a pirouline. It is tan in color with light brown swirls around the outside. It is firm to the touch and in the shape of a thin log. It is about five inches long. The outside is crunchy when bitten into and the inside is smooth, filled with chocolate and a slight hazelnut flavor. The flavor is light and delightful and the chocolate flavor is not too rich or heavy.

My Last Conversation

The last conversation I had was with my friend, Abby, outside of Spoonholder in the HJF Library on Morningside’s campus this morning. Abby is tall and has long blonde hair. I saw her walk around the corner. I smiled and waved with excitement. She asked me how bowling has been going this season. I told her we got second at our tournament in Topeka and first in Hastings. I also mentioned that we placed 13th in Davenport last weekend, which was a huge improvement from last year.

I then mentioned our next tournament, which is our home tournament. I told her she should come, and she said she was planning on it. We then said our goodbyes and each went to class.
