Last night around 8:30 in the evening, there was at 450 Stanley St. The robbers where two men, both wearing ski masks. One had a gun pointed at the owner of the shop while his partner was taking the money out of the cash register. The robbers took a total of $382.65 from the store and abruptly left in a car that had its motor running.
Barney Joseph Jr, owner of the store, mentioned that he did have a gun under the counter but decided not to use it. Even though the robbery was less than a minute long, Joseph felt it was unwise to try and reach for the gun.
25 years ago Joseph’s father was killed during a holdup at the same store. When asked if he recalled that incident while he was in almost the same hold up as his father, Joseph said, “Yes, Dad resisted, I guess. Anyway, they found him shot to death, his own gun in his hand, and a bullet in the store’s ceiling. I’d rather part with my money than my life.”
