What to Know About Cricket before the ICC Cricket World Cup

Cricket is a sport, gaining most of its popularity through parts of Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia. Throughout the rest of the world there aren’t many cricket fans, or many people that know about cricket at all. So here’s some important aspects of the game to be able to understand and enjoy watching the ICC Cricket World Cup.

First off, the games are held though out India this year. This an an event that happens every 4 years and this year there will be 10 fields around India that the many games will be played at. For starters, there are three categories of ticket matches. The first one is called Test matches. these games can last for as long as 5 days. The second (and most popular) are called Twenty20 (T20) matches. These matches consist of a single day with the games running about 3 hours long. The Third one is called intermediate matches. These are what is going to be played at the World Cup and these matches are one day long, lasting about seven to eight hours in length.

The format of Cricket is 11 people in the field while there is 2 batters from the other team. only 1 player bats at a time, but after they hit the ball they can chose to run and switch sides with the other batter, or chose to stay and bat again. A batter can get out by hitting a ball and an outfielder catching it, a bowl hitting the wicket (Sticks behind the batter) or if the ball hits the batters body, but was in line to hit the wicket. the teams switch sides. once a team has 10 out of the 11 batters out, or 200 balls are bowled. Once either of those happens there is a break in the game and the opposing team is up to bat. The game if finished once the second team either passes the first teams points, or they get all 10 outs.

Currently, India is the favorite to win this years Games, with Australia and England (reigning champions) as favorites also. The tournament starts out with the 10 best teams around the world. From there, 4 teams will move on to the next stage, and one winner will take home the title of 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Champions.

In the United States, Espn+ will be streaming all of the games, whereas in the other countries where cricket is a big deal, they will be streamed on major platforms.
