In the article entitled “This Gecko’s Camouflage Is So Good, It Masqueraded as Another Species”, Sofia Quaglia states that there was a reptile found in Madagascar that camouflaged itself so well that scientists mistook it for another species. Quaglia mentions that this Gecko tends to camouflage itself as a piece of bark on a tree trunk and is even seen as a better camouflager than a chameleon and it loves to hide itself in broad daylight.
This reptile is a newly identified species of the leaf-tailed gecko known as Uroplatus garamaso and look completely different from all the other forms. This type has a beard around the bottom of its chin as well as flattened tails. The Uroplatus garamaso is so good at camouflaging itself that is has been mistaken for for another gecko called the U. henkeli. It wasn’t until recently that scientist began to notice the very minor differences between after decades of research. It is still unclear as to how this type of gecko performs its stunts but scientist were glad to be able to finally identify and introduce this new species since they had reason to be seen as in an entirely different reptile group as a whole.
This is something I consider news because of how unique and different this species is and I believe it to be an interesting discovery. This event proves that there is still so much unknown about our world and that we are continuing to discover new things everyday and I believe it it very exciting.
