The article  found interesting these week is showing released emails from the WhiteHouse on 9/11/01. New York Times has tried getting there hands on all the emails using the open-records requests, however the Bush Library would only release parts of some emails due to national security. I think is news worth because it hits the human interest. Many people would be interested in this article because it talks about the personal messages that White House employee’s received throughout the day and how the mood of the day dramatically changed. This article was interesting to me for those exact reasons. I thought it would be interesting to read some of the emails that were sent out between White House employees and their families.

The news article that caught my eye the most this week is the article about the Kentucky clerk that refused to hand out marriage license to homosexual couples. To me, the clerk was out of line and disobeying the law just because it did not line up with her personal belief. Looking at this situation from a more extreme example, like say not paying your taxes. I could personally not believe in taxes and not pay them, but that is illegal and I will be arrested for that, whether or not I am a government official. When working as an government official, personal beliefs need to be set aside especially if it gets in the way of completing your job.

Molly O’Neill is a Sioux City native. However she transfered back home after her freshman year at the University of Iowa, looking for a small town environment she grew up in. She is currently living at home and looking forwarded to getting her own place so she can get her own dog.

Molly is very interested in holding a Human Relations position for a smaller company in a bigger city in the Midwest. To accomplish this she switched her major from education to business. Molly believes her best quality is how approachable and personal she is.  One thing Molly would like to do before she graduate is to travel to Ireland for a May Term.

What’s your definition of objectivity?

Objectivity to me is being able to remained unbiased about a topic and being able to become educated i on both sides.

Why be objective?

Being objective is very important during certain situations, including journalism. Being objective in journalism and making the article or news cast more relatable is important not only to get more people to read or watch but it also keeps them coming back. Also it maintains your creditablity in the audience’s eyes.

How do you do it?

To stay objective you must, set your personal views aside and report the news without any personal opinions distracting form the news.

I do not think journalism is becoming obsolete. Yes, everyday people can report what they see, although their creditability is not always the best. I think that in a general sense that the world is fairly distrusting. Personally, I would rather hear the news from a creditable news source, and a bystander that happened to see what happened. The more information I can receive the better. If anything, journalism is expanding in new formats and is more likely to reach different people.
