Backwater State University president, David French, adds new curriculum requirements in the fall of 2023. Incoming freshman will be required to take a foreign language class, as well as math and computer science classes.

Backwater State University is looking to increase the number of students in foreign language and math courses after a recent study showed that only 15% took a foreign language, and 20% a math class.
