My Dream Job <3

A dream job to me is a job you can go to everyday and never get tired of it, I am not completely positive as to what that is to me at this point in my life. I have a few ideas as to what could possibly be my dream job so I guess I’ll pick one. One of my possibilities of a dream job is a free lance journalist. The reason I think that is because I love to travel and I love to write, a free lance journalist gets to combine those two things so for me it’s a win-win situation. Free lance journalists travel around the country and sometimes even the world writing stories about events or people in the places they travel to. This is my first choice for a dream job, but I of course have a few back ups.

I have never been a free lance journalist and I don’t know anyone personally who is one, so I’m not completely sure what I have to do to get where I need to be to land this dream job. That is what I am hoping Morningside helps with. I know I need to take Mass Communication classes and specifically ones dealing in journalism. I also know I can help myself out by working with the various journalistic groups we have on campus. There is a radio station and tv station that I could get involved with and I’m sure there is a newspaper I could write for. I know I could probably find an internship around here that would help me out. All of these things and more is what I need to do to get to where I want to be.

I agree with Alex that you should start networking as a freshman for things to put on your resumé. It will give you that much more experience and experience always looks good for a job. Also the more experience you have under your belt, the more comfortable you are going into a job. All in all it is good idea for your resumé and just for you own personal gain.

Intro to Religion

So far I really like this class. I love that we are learning about all different religions and not just one. It’s interesting to learn about everything from the point of view that we are taking. I like that we are stepping back and taking ourselves out of the equation to keep us open minded when learning about a different religion then our own. Some of the reading is really hard to get through and I don’t quite understand it all. It really helps to break into groups during class and hearing how other people are translating the readings. The reading guides are really helping me with the readings, I feel like I understand better after writing down the information. I am excited to see what’s in store for the rest of the semester!

Salvation: Purpose&Audience

1. I think that Hughes wrote “Salvation” because it was an experience in his childhood that stuck with him. It was an important part of his life because his beliefs changed because of the event that took place. I don’t think his point was to criticize his aunt or other people in the congregation, I believe he was just telling us a part in his life that means something to him. In my opinion he was explaining something about childhood and the difference between age groups. One passage sticks out to me it’s the point that only the two boys are left and Westley, one of the boys left, says “God Damn! I’m tired o’ sitting here. Let’s get up and be saved.” The makes me think he was also getting across the point of what children think of the things adults tell them to do.

2. Hughes assumes that we as readers don’t know everything about the service he is describing, therefore he describes it in good detail to help you see what he was seeing. Details like sounds and what people are doing while participating in this service help me get a picture of what is going on. The dialogue also helps me get a good idea of how things are played out.

3. Anyone would feel pressure sitting up front listening to everyone shouting and singing at you, so the way Hughes describes his experience of this really helps you feel what he is feeling. One passage stood out and really helped me understand the pressure that he was feeling, when he was describing Westley sitting on the platform swinging his legs like he had done nothing wrong. I’m sure Hughes then felt an extreme amount of pressure being the only one sitting on the bench up front with everyone shouting and singing at him, so he did the only thing he thought he could. He got up.
