Mustang men end season undefeated at home

by Sirkevius Williams–Morningside men’s basketball team rolled over the Briar Cliff Chargers 97-79 Saturday (2.9) to finish out the 2018-19 home schedule undefeated. The Mustangs are now 24-1 overall and 17-1 in the GPAC.

The night began by honoring the team’s three seniors: Brody Egger, Pierce “Nut” Almond, and Andrew Semadeni. Egger, closing in on his last few regular season games, is planning to climb the ladder and reach 1,600 career points. That will place him fifth on the all-time scoring leader board.

The Chargers came in with a chip on their shoulder after losing in the first meeting between the two teams. After BC’s women’s team defeated the Lady Mustangs, the men took the court thinking they could dial up an upset as well.

Briar Cliff started off strong and full of tempo, matching Morningside shot for shot, point for point. Zach Imig and Alex Borchers gave the M’Side slight separation going into halftime.

Coming out of halftime it seemed that Alex Borchers couldn’t stop scoring; he finished the game with 12. The Mustangs rallied and led by as much as 23.

The “Fab 5” all put up double digits in this matchup. Imig and Matt Hahn both had 23 points, Brody Egger 17, and Tyler Borchers dropped in 14.

The Mustangs Face off against Doane University Wednesday, looking to extend their win streak to 10 games.
