(1.23.17) By Jaden Lux – The Pyschology Honor Society, Psy-Chi, hosted a diversity event in the Yockey Room on Friday.

Psy-Chi students led other Morningside students in tie dyeing T-shirts for a cause.

The event lasted from 11 to 1 in the afternoon Friday and was open to all students on campus for free. Saralyn Pearce, a Psy-Chi student, explained the reasoning behind the event.

“Today we are Tie-dyeing for diversity which is being put on by Psy-Chi. It’s all about everyone being equal and everyone being different, but we can all be equal at the same time,” Pearce said.

Students had the option to put a different message on each shirt before the dyeing process began.

A variety of colors were available, but for Pearce the colors were more than just for decoration. “We are the honor society for psychology so we do what every we decide needs to be done. [My colors] are red and blue, because it’s also for diversity in America, but we decided that there were way too many colors out there to just stick with red and blue.”

Psy-Chi students and The Diversity Club hope to have more events like these to continue to promote the acceptance of diversity on campus.
