Students and Faculty Attend State FFA Conference

FFABy Rachael Arnts–Morningside faculty and students had an “Ag-Citing” time promoting the Morningside Agriculture department at the Iowa State FFA Conference earlier this week.

The 88th Annual Iowa FFA Leadership Conference took place Monday and Tuesday at the Iowa State campus in Ames. Hundreds of High School FFA (Future Farmers of America) members from all around Iowa attended.

Morningside, along with several other colleges,  had a booth to recruit new students. Ag Club President Summer Beery and Ag Club Reporter Rachael Arnts were the student representatives at the conference. Three faculty members from the Agriculture department attended as well.

This is only the second year of the Agriculture program at Morningside. To make Morningside stand out, one of the department’s drones was on display. Hats and shirts were given to students who showed genuine interest in Morningside. Also, Beery and Arnts were instructed to share their experiences of the Morningside Agriculture department with the prospective students

“I think Morningside Ag did great for recruiting at the conference. We talked to students who didn’t even know what Morningside was and got them interested. It was a great experience,” said Beery.

There was a significant boost in the number of students who requested more information about Morningside compared to last year. By the end of the first day of the conference, about 40 students expressed interest in Morningside, which is a lot more than last year’s turnout.

The Morningside Ag Club is currently in the process of creating a Collegiate FFA Chapter for the next coming school year.
