Freshman Creates New Club

By Rachael Arnts–Freshman Karissa Heckens has taken the helm to create a new Christian club that she was “called” to do.

Christ Connections is a newly formed group on campus. The mission is to connect and unify Christians on campus by creating an environment where they can grow in their faith in Christ together.

During Heckens’s first semester at Morningside, she met lots of people on campus.

She came to realize that a lot of them shared common beliefs with her. Despite Campus Bible Studies, she felt like there needed to be a place for all students, who share common beliefs, to come enjoy fellowship together.

“I felt like I was being called to create a group that would provide such a place,” comments Heckens.

Christ Connections has been active for two and a half months. The group’s first event was a Christmas party and worship night back in December. Professor Bruce Forbes, the advisor of the group just recently hosted a movie night for the group at his home.

Christ Connections is also busy planning upcoming events and service projects. A game night will be held on Monday, March 14 from 8pm to 9pm in the Dimmitt Informal Lounge. In the future Heckens would like to see the group volunteer at the Gospel Mission, go to Trinity Heights, and host a worship and prayer night.

“I will like to see this group grow with Christians from all backgrounds. I hope that it will be a positive force on campus that will spread God’s light and welcome all people,” says Heckens.

If anyone has any questions about the group or would like more information, feel free to contact Karissa Heckens or Bruce Forbes.
