Students Volunteer Part of Summer Break for Mission Trip

_63831201_haitiBy Rachel Potter–Sunnybrook Community Church of Sioux City will be taking 18 college students on a mission trip to Haiti. They will be leaving the United States on May 16 and will return May 23.

The students going to Haiti attend either Morningside College or Western Iowa Tech Community College. Chris VerSteeg, college ministries and small groups director at Sunnybrook will accompany them on their trip to Haiti.

This group of volunteers will be going to Simonette, Haiti. These students will be working with the Touch of Hope Ministries, and will be staying at the Tytoo Orphanage.  The Grooter family founded Touch of Hope Ministries and the orphanage. Megan Grooter was a former worker at Sunnybrook Community Church.

Madison Harpenau and Allie VanHouten, sophomores at Morningside College, will be just two of the students spending their first week of summer vacation in Haiti serving others. They want to make a difference this summer and use their faith to do so.

“I believe I can make an impact on those living in the orphanage, and in turn my life will also benefit greatly,” said Harpenau.

“I believe this is my calling to share the word of the Lord with other individuals,” said VanHouten.

The young adults going on this mission trip ask for your prayers while they are getting ready for this eye opening experience and are looking for any donations to help with trip expenses.
