Dame Cairncross Lectures at Morningside

cairncrossBy Rachel Potter–Dame Frances Cairncross gave her lecture, “Five Global Trends that will Influence the 21st Century” Thursday night at Morningside College.

The lecture was attended my students, teachers, and community members.  She predicts demography, environment, technology, government, and beliefs are the five trends that effect generations to come.

Dame Cairncross said in her lecture: “I believe education is extremely important it happens all the time, it starts at birth.”

Morningside College applied for a grant to be eligible to bring Dame Frances Cairncross to the school to speak to their students.  She was on campus the week of February 1st – 5th. She spent her time at the college speaking to both students and the public. She went to several different classes, and held two public lectures.

Cairncross is a former journalist for The Economist. She was also the Rector of Exeter College for Oxford from 2004 to 2014.  After retiring from Oxford, she was made a Dame for her services to education and economics. She has also authored several books and regularly lectures at colleges at universities.
